You know, I saw some young folks talking ’bout this thing, 550 white vintage indigo. What a mouthful! Sounds fancy, huh? I guess it’s some kinda shoe. Back in my day, we just had shoes. Didn’t matter the color, long as they kept the rocks out.

These young’uns today, they got all sorts of names for things. 550, what’s that even mean? Is it the number of steps you take in ’em? Or maybe how many pennies they cost? Though, I reckon they cost a whole lot more than pennies. Everything’s expensive these days. A good pair of shoes, they should last ya. Not like those things that fall apart after a month. Waste of money, that’s what it is.
White, though, that’s a pretty color. Reminds me of the clouds on a sunny day. But white shoes? They’d get dirty in a minute out here. All this dust and dirt, you’d be scrubbin’ ’em every day. Maybe they’re for those city folk, walkin’ on their paved roads. Don’t know nothin’ about mud and grime.
- White, like fresh milk.
- White, like the neighbor’s prize-winning chicken.
- White, like the sheets on laundry day.
Then there’s this “vintage” word. What is “vintage”? Means old, right? But they’re sellin’ ’em new? Makes no sense. If somethin’s new, it ain’t vintage. If it’s vintage, it ain’t new. These kids and their words, I tell ya. They like to confuse us old folks, I swear. My old shoes, now those are vintage. Held together with string and a prayer, but they’re vintage alright.
And indigo. Indigo? Ain’t that a color? A kinda blue, like the sky just before nightfall. So, 550 white vintage indigo, it’s like, a new old white and blue shoe? They mixin’ colors now, like paint. I remember when blue was just blue. And white was just white. Not all these fancy names. Indigo. Sheesh.
I saw a picture of these 550 things. They look like those basketball shoes, you know, the ones the boys wear to jump around and shoot hoops. But with the white and this indigo, they look…different. Not bad, I suppose. Just…different. Maybe that’s what the young folks like. Different. Gotta stand out from the crowd, they say. Stand out in their 550 white vintage indigo shoes. A real head scratcher.

Price though, that’s another thing. They say it is expensive! These shoes are something. I guess if you got the money, you can spend it on whatever you want. But for me? I’ll stick to my old boots. They might not be 550 white vintage indigo, but they get the job done. And that’s all that matters. Ain’t no use in being fancy if you can’t walk where you need to go.
These 550 shoes, they got a clean look. Whatever that means. Clean. Like they just came out of the box. I guess that’s good. Nobody wants dirty shoes, ‘cept maybe the dogs. They love rollin’ around in the dirt. Get all muddy and happy. Maybe that’s what these young’uns need. A little more dirt and a little less worryin’ about their fancy 550 shoes.
I remember one time, my grandson, he came home with a new pair of shoes, I do not remember the name. All excited, showin’ ’em off. He said they were special. He spent all his saved money for it. Cost more than my Sunday dress! But he was happy. And I guess that’s what matters. If these 550 white vintage indigo shoes make these kids happy, then who am I to say anything? It is a good shoe I guess.
- Maybe these shoes are for dancin’.
- Maybe they’re for runnin’ fast.
- Maybe they’re just for lookin’ at.
Still, I can’t help but shake my head. 550 white vintage indigo. The world keeps changing. Faster and faster. Sometimes, it’s hard to keep up. But I suppose, as long as there are feet, there will be shoes. And as long as there are young folks, there will be new names for those shoes. Even if those names don’t make a lick of sense to an old lady like me. I still can not understand the meaning of “550”.
I guess it’s all about what you like, though, right? You like these 550 things? Good for you. It is just a number and a color, but it means something special to someone, I guess. You wear ’em. You be happy. That’s all that matters in the end. Don’t matter what this old lady thinks. You do you, as they say. Even if “you” means wearin’ some 550 white vintage indigo shoes. These shoes are somethin’ else.
