Benrus Ultra Deep Review: My Hands-On Experience

by Rod Nichol

Alright, let’s talk about this Benrus Ultra Deep watch. Folks are makin’ a big fuss about it, so I figured I’d take a look-see myself. Now, I ain’t no fancy watch expert or nothin’, but I know what I like and what seems sturdy.

Benrus Ultra Deep Review: My Hands-On Experience

First off, this thing looks like it could take a beatin’. It’s big and heavy, you know, like one of them old tractors. They say it’s good for divin’ deep, real deep, but I ain’t gonna be testin’ that. The deepest I go is the well in the backyard! But I guess if you’re one of them fellas who likes to swim with the fishes, this watch might be your cup of tea. It’s got this rotating bezel thing, and it clicks real nice. I guess you use that to keep track of how long you’ve been down there with the fishes or somethin’.

The face is kinda plain, not too much goin’ on, which ain’t a bad thing in my book. You can see the numbers clear as day, even without my glasses, which is sayin’ somethin’. The hands are big and glow in the dark, so you could see what time it is even if you’re stuck in a coal mine. They call that “luminous markers” I think, sounds fancy but it just means they glow in the dark like fireflies.

  • Big and Heavy: Like I said, it’s a hefty fella.
  • Easy to Read: Numbers and hands are big and clear.
  • Glows in the Dark: Handy if you’re out in the boonies at night.
  • Rotating Bezel: For keepin’ track of time, I reckon.

Now, about that strap. Mine came with this rubbery thing. It feels strong, that’s for sure. Not like them fancy leather ones that scratch up if you look at ’em wrong. This one, you could probably drag it through the mud and it’d be just fine. They say it’s a “rubber strap”, well I coulda told ya that. It ain’t rocket science.

They keep talkin’ about how this watch is a throwback to some old watch from the sixties. Somethin’ about “Benrus first released their Ultra-Deep in the 1960s”. Well, I was around in the sixties, and I don’t remember seein’ too many folks with watches like this. We were too busy workin’ our fingers to the bone. But I guess some folks like that old-timey stuff. This new one, though, they say it’s got all the newfangled insides. Somethin’ about bein’ strapped next to “dive computers with full LCD screens and other blinking contraptions”. Sounds complicated to me. I just need a watch to tell me when it’s time to eat and when it’s time to sleep.

Some folks online, they’re all worried about the price and whether it’s a good investment. Investment? It’s a watch, not a gold mine! But I guess if you got money to burn, you can spend it on whatever you want. Me, I’d rather buy a new chicken coop.

So, is this Benrus Ultra Deep worth the money? Well, that depends on what you’re lookin’ for. If you want a tough, reliable watch that can take a lickin’ and keep on tickin’, then maybe it is. If you’re lookin’ for somethin’ fancy and sparkly, then you might wanna look elsewhere. For me, it’s a good, solid watch. Nothin’ more, nothin’ less. It tells the time, and it looks like it’ll last a good long while. And that’s good enough for me.

One last thing, I saw someone callin’ it “Benrus’ New Diver”. Well, it’s new to me, I reckon. But if it works as good as my old rooster, then I ain’t got no complaints. This watch, it ain’t gonna help you plow a field or milk a cow, but it’ll tell you what time it is while you’re doin’ it. And sometimes, that’s all you need.

In a nutshell, this watch is tough as nails, easy to read, and it does what it’s supposed to do. It ain’t gonna win you no beauty contests, but it’ll keep on tickin’ long after them fancy watches have given up the ghost. And that, in my book, is what really matters.
