Okay, so I’ve been seeing this “Korean makeup” thing all over TikTok and wanted to give it a shot. I’m no makeup artist, but I figured, why not? Here’s how it went, from start to finish – my very own before-and-after Korean makeup experiment!

Prepping My Face
First things first, I washed my face. Gotta start with a clean slate, right? I used my usual cleanser, nothing fancy. Then, I applied a toner. I’ve heard Korean skincare is all about that hydration, so I made sure to slap on some moisturizer too. My skin felt all soft and ready to go.
The Base
Next up, the base. I don’t own a fancy BB cream, which I think is the Korean go-to, so I just used my regular foundation. I dabbed it on with my fingers – I find it blends better that way. I added a bit of concealer under my eyes because, well, mom life. I set everything with a light dusting of powder. I didn’t want to look too cakey.
Eyes
This is where things got interesting. I watched a few tutorials, and it seems like the Korean eye look is all about looking natural and youthful. I skipped the heavy eyeliner and just used a brown eyeshadow pencil to lightly line my upper lash line. I smudged it a bit to soften it up. Then, I curled my lashes (a must!) and applied a coat of mascara. I kept it pretty light – no spider lashes here!
- Used brown eyeshadow pencil for a soft line.
- Curled lashes for that wide-eyed look.
- Applied a single coat of mascara.
Aegyo-sal
Okay, this was totally new to me. Apparently, “aegyo-sal” is a thing – it’s that little puff of fat under your eyes that makes you look younger. I used a light, shimmery eyeshadow to highlight the area just below my lower lash line. I blended it out so it didn’t look too obvious. It felt weird, but I kinda liked it!
Blush and Lips
For blush, I went with a peachy-pink shade. I applied it high on my cheekbones, almost like I was blushing from the cold. It definitely gave me a more youthful vibe. For lips, I opted for a tinted lip balm. I wanted something natural-looking, just a hint of color. I dabbed it on and blotted it with a tissue.

The Result
So, the final verdict? I think I did… okay! It definitely looks different from my usual makeup routine. My skin looks brighter, my eyes look bigger, and I just look… fresher, I guess. Is it a perfect Korean makeup look? Probably not. But it was fun to try, and I actually learned a few new tricks. I might even incorporate some of these techniques into my everyday makeup routine. It’s all about that subtle glow, you know?
