Ballerina Flats with Crystals: Where to Buy and What to Look For

by Cornell Yule

Okay, so I’ve been wanting to jazz up my shoe game lately. You know, something sparkly but still comfy enough for everyday wear. That’s when I stumbled upon the idea of making my own ballerina flats with crystals. I thought, why not give it a shot?

Ballerina Flats with Crystals: Where to Buy and What to Look For

First things first, I needed some plain ballet flats. I found a cheap pair online, nothing fancy, just a simple black pair with a rounded toe. Once those arrived, I started gathering the rest of my supplies. I went to a local craft store and picked up a bunch of assorted crystals. They had all sorts of shapes and sizes, and I grabbed a mix of clear and some colored ones, just to play around with different looks.

Next up, glue. This was important – I needed something strong enough to hold the crystals in place but also wouldn’t damage the material of the shoes. After reading some reviews online, I went with a popular fabric glue.

Getting Down to Business

With all my supplies ready, I cleared off my kitchen table and laid everything out. I started by planning out the design. I decided to go with a simple yet elegant look, placing the larger crystals around the toe area and scattering smaller ones towards the heel. I also experimented with adding some crystals along the elasticized collar of the shoes.

Gluing the crystals was a bit tedious, I won’t lie. I used a pair of tweezers to pick up each crystal, carefully applied a tiny dot of glue to the back, and then gently pressed it onto the shoe. I had to hold each one in place for a few seconds to make sure it really stuck. It took a while, but slowly but surely, my flats started to transform. Also, I thought it would be a good idea to have some kind of strap or something, so that my shoes are not so easy to fall off. And I found a strap with crystals on it, and it was removable, which was really convenient, and I decided to buy it and use it together.

The Big Reveal

After a couple of hours of work and letting the glue dry overnight, my crystal-encrusted ballerina flats were finally done! And you know what? They looked pretty darn good! The crystals added just the right amount of sparkle, and the shoes were still super comfy.

I’ve been wearing them around town, and I’ve gotten so many compliments. People keep asking me where I bought them, and they’re always surprised when I tell them I made them myself. It’s a great feeling to wear something you created with your own two hands.

  • What I used:
  • Plain ballerina flats
  • Assorted crystals
  • Strong fabric glue
  • Tweezers

Honestly, this was such a fun and easy project. If you’re looking for a way to add some personality to your wardrobe, I highly recommend giving it a try. You don’t need to be a crafting expert, just a little bit of patience and a whole lot of sparkle!
