Amazon Hank Building: That Big City Place

Well, lemme tell ya, they got this big ol’ building in the city, New York City, they call it. Amazon went and bought it, this place called Lord & Taylor, fancy-like store it used to be. Folks say it was a real important place, a landmark, they called it. I ain’t never seen nothin’ like it, but they say it’s special.

Now, Amazon, they make all sorts of things, you know, like them boxes they leave on your porch. They took this old store and made it into somethin’ new, a place for all them computer folks to work. They call it “Hank”. Don’t ask me why, sounds like a fella’s name to me. They say it’s somethin’ to do with yarn, but I ain’t never knitted nothin’ in my life.

They fixed up the place real nice, so I hear. Didn’t just tear it down and build somethin’ new, no sir. They kept it lookin’ fancy, like it always did, but put in all them computer things inside. Musta cost a pretty penny, all that work.

This Hank place, it ain’t no small thing. They say more than two thousand folks work there! Two thousand! That’s more people than live in my whole town, I reckon. All them folks tappin’ away on them keyboards, doin’ who-knows-what.

They say this building is real important to the city, a landmark. That means it’s special, I guess. Like the old oak tree down by the creek, it’s been there a long time and folks want to keep it around. Amazon, they promised to keep it lookin’ nice, not mess it up too much.

I heard tell Amazon’s got buildin’s all over the place, even bigger ones in other countries. But this Hank place, it’s somethin’ special, they say. It’s right there in the middle of the city, in that fancy Lord & Taylor store. Imagine that!

This “Hank” place, it ain’t just about computers and work, though. It’s about takin’ somethin’ old and makin’ it new again. Like patchin’ up a quilt, you keep the good parts and add some new pieces to make it even better. That’s what they did with this buildin’, I figure.

Now, I don’t know much about them city folk and their computers, but I know a good buildin’ when I see one, even if it’s just in pictures. And this Hank place, it looks mighty fine. All cleaned up and fancy, with lots of folks workin’ inside. It’s a good thing, I guess, keepin’ that old building from fallin’ apart.

So, that’s the story of the Amazon Hank building, as best as I can tell ya. It’s a big place in the city, where lots of folks work, and it used to be a fancy store. They say Amazon is a big company, does all sorts of things. They got them delivery trucks all over the place, bringin’ you whatever you need, right to your door. And now they got this big office buildin’ in the city, full of them computer folks. Times sure are changin’, ain’t they?

But even with all them computers and fancy things, it’s still just a building, when you get right down to it. A place for folks to work, to make a livin’. And that’s somethin’ I understand, no matter how fancy they make it sound.
