Okay, so I finally got my hands on the ghd white platinum flat iron. Been hearing about these things for ages, figured it was time to see what the fuss was about. My old straightener just wasn’t cutting it anymore, leaving my hair feeling kinda fried.

Getting Started
Unboxing it was pretty straightforward. Nice clean packaging, felt solid right out of the box. The white finish looks really sleek, gotta admit. Picked it up, felt good in the hand, not too heavy, not too light. Plugged it in. It makes this little sound when it turns on, which is kinda neat. Then it has another little jingle when it’s ready. Didn’t take long at all to heat up, seriously quick. That was the first thing I noticed – super fast.
The Actual Straightening Process
Right, so my hair’s naturally got a bit of wave, can get frizzy easily, especially if it’s humid. I always use a heat protectant spray first – gotta protect the locks, you know? Sprayed that all over, brushed it through.
I started sectioning my hair off with clips, just the usual way. Took the first section, clamped the ghd down near the roots, and just glided it down. Wow. Okay, the plates are smooth. Like, really smooth. It didn’t snag or pull at all, which my old one definitely did sometimes. Just one pass, maybe two on the thicker bits underneath, and the section was straight. Like, properly straight and shiny too.
What I really liked:
- The smooth glide. Seriously, no pulling.
- How fast it heated up.
- It seemed to get the job done in fewer passes.
- My hair didn’t feel straw-like after, felt soft.
I worked my way through all the sections. The rounded edges made it easy to get close to the roots without burning my scalp, which is always a plus. I even tried twisting it a little on a couple of end sections to see if it could make a wave. Yeah, it did that pretty easily too, thanks to those curved edges. Didn’t spend long on that, mostly wanted it straight today.
Final Thoughts After Using It
Finished my whole head way quicker than usual. Looked in the mirror, and yeah, big difference. Hair was smooth, looked healthier, definitely less frizz than I normally fight with. It felt really soft to touch, not stiff or dried out. The shine was noticeable.
So, yeah. Early days still, but first impressions are really good. It did what it was supposed to do, did it quickly, and my hair actually felt good afterwards. Seems like a solid piece of kit. Gonna keep using it and see how it holds up over time, but right now, I’m pretty happy I made the switch.
