Okay, so I’ve been meaning to hit up the Renaissance fair in Barcelona, the “Renaissance Fira Barcelona,” for ages. Today, I finally made it happen! Here’s how it went down.

Getting Started

First things first, I looked up the event online. Needed to figure out the dates, times, and exact location. I found it was happening at Fira de Barcelona. Good, I had heard about that location before.

Next up, I checked the weather. Barcelona can be unpredictable, so I was checking if rain was expected. Turns out, it was going to be sunny and warm – perfect!

The Journey

I hopped on the metro. Barcelona’s public transport is pretty solid, so getting there was a breeze. I got off at the station closest to Fira de Barcelona, which was I think was Espanya. I relied heavily on my basic Spanish skills and hand gestures to ask around for confirmation.

From the station, it was a short walk. I followed the signs, and, more importantly, I followed the crowds. You could tell who was heading to the fair – lots of folks in costumes, some carrying swords (toy ones, I hoped!).

Inside the Fair

Once inside, wow! It was like stepping back in time. Seriously, people were dressed up in full Renaissance gear – knights, ladies, jesters, the works. I even saw a couple of guys in full armor!

  • I wandered around, just soaking it all in.
  • I checked out the stalls. They were selling all sorts of cool stuff – handcrafted jewelry, leather goods, pottery, even old-timey weapons (again, mostly toy ones!).
  • I watched a couple of performances. There was some live music – lutes and flutes and stuff – and some theatrical shows. Pretty entertaining, even though I didn’t understand every word.
  • I grabbed some food. It was mostly medieval-themed – big hunks of meat, roasted vegetables, that sort of thing. Tasty, but messy!

I ate it without thinking too much about the sanitary conditions.

Wrapping Up

After a few hours, I was pretty tired, I decided to head home. I reversed my journey – walked back to the metro, hopped on the train, and made my way back to my place.

All in all, a super fun day. It was great to experience something different, and the Renaissance Fira Barcelona definitely delivered. Would I go again? Probably! But maybe next time I’ll dress up too.
