My Journey with the G-Shock Metal Square
Alright, let’s talk about this G-Shock metal square I got. I’d been eyeing one for a while, you know? Had plenty of the regular plastic G-Shocks over the years, tough as nails, always reliable. But I wanted something that felt a bit more… substantial, maybe a little grown-up, but still kept that G-Shock toughness I rely on.
So, I finally pulled the trigger. Getting it out of the box was the first thing. Right away, you notice the weight. It’s not heavy like some massive diver watch, but compared to the resin squares, yeah, you feel it. It felt solid, cold to the touch. The finish looked pretty neat, not too flashy, which is what I wanted. I chose the classic silver look, figured it would go with pretty much anything.
Putting it on was straightforward. Standard G-Shock strap mechanism, easy to adjust. First day wearing it, I was definitely aware of it on my wrist more than the old plastic ones. Not uncomfortable, just… present. Took maybe a day or two to get completely used to that extra heft. I was a bit worried about scratching the metal bezel or bracelet, especially doing chores around the house or working in the garage.
I started wearing it everywhere. To the office (well, my home office mostly these days), out for walks, doing yard work. Just living life with it. The time is easy to read, standard digital display, nothing fancy there. Used the backlight a few times groping around in the dark, works just fine, bright enough. Haven’t really messed with the world time or stopwatch much, I mostly just need the time and date, maybe the occasional alarm to remind me of something.
How’s it holding up? Pretty darn well. I’ve definitely knocked it against door frames, maybe dropped it once from desk height onto the carpet. No major damage. There are some super tiny hairline scratches on the bracelet clasp if you look really closely under bright light, but that’s just normal wear and tear, happens with any metal watch band. The bezel itself still looks pretty clean. It’s still a G-Shock underneath that metal, after all. That core toughness is there.

So, yeah. Been using it for a good while now. It’s become my go-to daily watch. It’s tough, reliable, looks decent, and feels substantial without being annoying. If you like the classic square G-Shock shape but want something with a bit more presence and a metallic feel, I’d say go for it. It’s worked out well for me, just doing my everyday stuff.
