My Search for the Right Kind of Smart Shoe
Okay, so I’d been looking for a new pair of shoes for ages. Not just any shoes, though. I needed something that looked, you know, a bit more put-together. My usual sneakers and old flats just weren’t cutting it for certain things. I felt like I needed to step up my shoe game, just a little bit.

I started digging around online, because going to actual shops feels like a whole expedition these days. I knew I wanted a heel, but nothing crazy high. My days of teetering around on massive heels are long gone, thank goodness. Loafers always have that classic, smart vibe, but the flat ones weren’t quite what I was after for this particular need. I wanted that loafer style, but with a bit of a lift.
So, the term “loafer heels” became my new best friend in the search bar. And Michael Kors, well, their name kept coming up. I’ve had a handbag from them for years, and it’s held up pretty well, so I thought, okay, maybe their shoes are decent too. I checked out a bunch of different styles and brands, of course. Some looked too clunky, others too flimsy. It’s always a bit of a gamble buying shoes online, isn’t it?
Making the Choice and the First Try
I finally landed on a pair of Michael Kors loafer heels that looked promising. Classic design, not too over-the-top, and the heel height seemed manageable. I clicked all the buttons, put in my details, and then just waited for them to arrive. The usual online shopping dance.
When the box finally got here, I was pretty keen to see them. Opened it up. They looked good, felt quite solid. The moment of truth, though, is always trying them on. So, I slipped them on. And… well, they were a tad tight. Not “I can’t get my foot in” tight, but more like “I’m going to have serious regrets after an hour of walking” tight. That’s always annoying, right? The whole “should I keep them and hope they stretch, or go through the hassle of sending them back?” debate started in my head.

Getting it Right and Taking Them for a Spin
I decided to do the sensible thing and exchange them for half a size up. It’s a bit of a faff, sending things back, waiting for the new ones, but better than having shoes you can’t really wear. The new pair arrived, and bingo, much better fit. A sigh of relief, honestly.
The first real outing for these Michael Kors loafer heels was a work-related thing. Not super formal, but one of those occasions where you want to look like you’ve made an effort. I remember specifically thinking, “Okay shoes, don’t let me down.” And you know what? They were actually pretty comfortable for new heels.
- I definitely felt a bit more polished than usual.
- The heel gave me that little bit of height without making me feel like I was going to topple over.
- I even managed to walk a fair bit and stand around without my feet absolutely killing me by the end of it.
It’s funny, isn’t it, how a good pair of shoes can just make you feel a bit more confident? These haven’t magically changed my life or anything, but they fill a gap I had in my wardrobe. I needed something reliable, smart, but still wearable for more than ten minutes. It reminds me of when I bought my first “proper” winter coat. Before that, I was just layering up loads of thin things. Getting that one good coat made such a difference. These loafer heels are a bit like that. They’re not an everyday shoe for me, but when I need them, they do the job, and they do it pretty well. And I didn’t even get any blisters that first time, which, for new heels, is practically a miracle.
