Okay, Let’s Talk About That SGA Look
So, I kept seeing pictures of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, you know, the basketball player. Not just on the court, but his street style. Always looks kinda different, comfy but like, thought out. And I thought, hey, maybe I could try pulling that off. Seemed like a cool vibe to experiment with, break out of my usual jeans-and-a-tshirt routine.
First thing I did was just scroll through a bunch of photos. Trying to figure out what the core elements really are. It’s not just one thing, right? It felt like a mix of stuff.
- Lots of baggy pants, usually jeans, sometimes cargos. Like, really loose fitting.
- Interesting tops. Sometimes hoodies, sometimes weird graphic tees, sometimes more like fashion-y shirts.
- Accessories seemed key too. Hats, maybe some subtle jewelry, good sneakers obviously.
- Layering. He does that quite a bit, throwing a jacket over a hoodie or whatever.
Looked simple enough on the surface. So, step one, checked my own closet. Did I have anything that fit the bill? Honestly, not much. My jeans are more straight-leg, definitely not SGA-level baggy. Had some hoodies, but nothing really stood out.
The Search for the Right Pieces
Alright, time to actually look for clothes. This was trickier than I expected. Finding jeans that were baggy in the right way, without looking like I was drowning in them, took some searching. Went to a few stores, tried on a bunch. Most were either not baggy enough or just fit weirdly around the waist.
Finally found a pair online that looked promising. Took a gamble, ordered ’em. They arrived, and yeah, they were baggy alright. Maybe a little too long, gotta roll ’em up, but the fit was closer to what I saw in the pics.
Then the tops. This part felt more flexible. I didn’t want to copy exact outfits, just get the vibe. Found a couple of oversized graphic tees, nothing too crazy expensive. Also grabbed a plain, slightly oversized hoodie. I figured I could mix and match.

Sneakers, I already had some decent ones, so didn’t focus too much there. Maybe added a simple beanie I had lying around.
Trying It All On
Okay, got the pieces. Time to actually wear it. Put on the baggy jeans, the oversized tee, threw the hoodie on top for one look. It felt… different. Really comfortable, gotta admit. But also, a bit weird? Like I was wearing a costume almost.
Walked around the house a bit. Looked in the mirror. It didn’t look bad, exactly. Just maybe not totally “me”. The looseness took some getting used to. I kept thinking, do these pants make me look shorter? Probably.
Tried another combo, jeans with just the hoodie. Better. Simpler. Felt less like I was trying too hard. The key seemed to be not overdoing it. Just one or two ‘statement’ pieces, like the super baggy jeans, and keep the rest fairly simple.
So, Did It Stick?
Honestly? Not really, not the whole look anyway. It was a fun experiment, for sure. Gave me some ideas. I definitely appreciate the comfort of looser fits now more than I used to. Might wear those baggy jeans now and then when I’m feeling lazy.

But trying to fully replicate someone else’s specific style? It’s hard. SGA pulls it off because it seems natural on him. It’s his thing. On me, it felt a bit forced. Maybe I need more confidence, or maybe it’s just not my lane.
Learned a bit though. Mostly that finding your own style is probably better than just copying someone else, even if they look cool. Might borrow an element here or there, like looser pants sometimes, but the full head-to-toe thing? Nah, probably stick closer to my own usual stuff. It was an interesting process, glad I tried it, but yeah, back to my regular clothes mostly.
