Right, so these Boston clogs. Seen ’em everywhere for a while now, haven’t we? Took me ages to actually pull the trigger on getting a pair myself.

Honestly, I kept seeing them online, on folks walking down the street, and thought, “Really? Those things?” Looked a bit… well, orthopedic, if I’m being blunt. But the buzz just kept going. People swearing by how comfy they were. So, curiosity got the better of me. Figured I had to see what the fuss was about.
Getting Them In Hand
Finding the right size and color wasn’t exactly a walk in the park. Seemed like they were sold out a lot, or the popular colors vanished fast. Finally managed to order a pair in taupe suede. When the box arrived, I opened it up. First impression? Lighter than I expected, but also stiffer. That famous cork footbed looked hard as a rock.
I slid my feet in. Okay, definitely not pillowy soft like some slippers or sneakers right out of the box. Felt structured. My toes had room, which was nice, but that arch support felt… prominent. Not bad, just noticeable. Stood up, walked around the living room. Clomp, clomp, clomp on the hardwood floor. Felt a bit silly, like wearing Dutch wooden shoes, but indoors.
The Breaking-In Bit
Heard you gotta break these things in. So, I started wearing them around the house. Just for an hour or two at first. Then for longer stretches.
- Week one: Still stiff. Wore them with socks. Felt okay for pottering about, doing chores.
- Week two: Took them out for a quick trip to the shop. Felt a bit self-conscious, but survived. The cork was maybe, maybe starting to feel a little less rigid. Or maybe I was just getting used to it.
- Week three: Definitely noticing a difference. The footbed seemed to be molding to my foot shape. That hard arch support felt less like a lump and more like, well, support.
It wasn’t painful breaking them in, not like some stubborn leather boots I’ve had in the past. More like an adjustment period. You and the shoe getting acquainted.

Living With The Clogs
Now? Months later? They’ve kinda become my go-to. Seriously. Especially for just kicking around, running errands, working from home (yeah, I wear shoes indoors sometimes, don’t judge). They’re just easy. Slip on, slip off. No laces, no fuss.
What I like:
- The convenience is unbeatable.
- They did get comfortable. Really comfortable, actually. That molded footbed thing is real.
- Surprisingly versatile. They look fine with jeans, joggers, even shorts if you’re brave.
- Durable so far. The suede needs a bit of care, sure, but the sole and cork are holding up great.
What’s maybe not so great:
- Not exactly all-weather shoes. Suede and rain don’t mix well.
- They can still feel a bit clunky sometimes. Not gonna run a marathon in them.
- That initial “are these actually ugly?” thought never completely goes away. But maybe that’s part of the charm now?
It’s funny how your perspective changes. Years ago, I wouldn’t have been caught dead in something like this. It was all about sleek trainers or smart boots. Getting older? Caring less? Maybe just prioritizing actual comfort over trends. Reminds me of when I finally gave up on super skinny jeans. Took me ages, felt weird at first, then suddenly realised I could actually breathe and move again. These clogs feel a bit like that – a practical comfort I was initially skeptical about but now totally get.
So, Yeah…
They live by my back door now. Need to take the bins out? Clogs. Pop to the corner shop? Clogs. Quick drive somewhere? Clogs. Didn’t expect to become a clog person, but here we are. They just sort of fit into the routine. Easy, comfy, job done. Still think they look a bit funny sometimes, but my feet are happy.
