So, I found myself wandering around Midtown the other day, stomach rumbling. You know how it is in New York, tons of places, but sometimes you just want something specific. This time, I had a real craving for some decent seafood, specifically lobster. Heard about this place, City Lobster, figured I’d give it a shot. Wasn’t expecting miracles, just a solid meal.
Walked over there, it’s right in the thick of things, near Times Square, which usually makes me a bit wary, you know? Tourist traps and all that. But I pushed through the door anyway. Place looked alright, kinda classic steakhouse/seafood vibe inside. Dark wood, dim lights, tablecloths. Nothing too fancy, but clean and busy. Looked like a mix of tourists and maybe some office folks.
Getting Seated and Ordering Up
Got seated pretty quickly, which was nice. The host was efficient, no fuss. Sat down, got the menu. It’s what you’d expect – oysters, shrimp cocktail, chowder, and of course, the main event, lobster. Lots of ways to have it: steamed, broiled, stuffed, lobster roll. Prices were… well, it’s Midtown lobster, you know? Not cheap, but I was prepared for that. Decided to keep it simple.
- I went straight for the steamed whole lobster. Figured that’s the best way to judge the quality.
- Ordered a side of fries, because why not?
- Got a simple beer to wash it down.
The waiter came over, took the order. Seemed professional enough, knew the menu. Didn’t chat much, just got the job done.
The Main Course – Lobster Time
Didn’t wait too long for the food. The lobster arrived, bright red, steaming. Came with the usual gear – crackers, little fork, melted butter, lemon wedge. Looked pretty good, decent size. I cracked into it right away. The meat came out easy enough, which is a good sign. Tasted fresh, sweet, just like good lobster should. Dipped it in the butter, perfect. It wasn’t the best lobster I’ve ever had in my life, maybe, but it was definitely solid. Hit the spot. The fries were just fries, nothing special, but they were hot and crispy.
The place had a good buzz while I was eating. Lots of chatter, clinking glasses. It felt like a real New York joint, busy and loud but not obnoxious. Service was okay throughout the meal, refilled my water, checked if I needed anything without hovering too much.
Wrapping It Up
Finished up the lobster, feeling pretty satisfied. Cleaned up with the wet wipes they provided. Got the check, paid up. Like I said, not a cheap meal, but for lobster in this part of town, it felt about right. Didn’t feel ripped off, didn’t feel like I’d discovered some hidden gem either. It was just… good, reliable seafood.
So yeah, that was my trip to City Lobster. If you’re nearby and craving lobster and don’t mind the price tag, it does the job. It’s straightforward, no frills really, just decent seafood in a busy spot. Would I go out of my way to go back? Maybe not. But if I was in the area again with that same craving? Yeah, I probably would. It delivered exactly what I expected.
