What is the most popular tiktok makeup tutorial? (Check out these looks everyone is doing!)

by Joyce Mackintosh

Alright, so I finally caved. You know how it is, scrolling through TikTok, and suddenly BAM! Another makeup tutorial. This one, though, it was everywhere. Everyone was doing it, looking all snatched and flawless in like, five minutes. Or so they claimed. I figured, okay, I’ve got some time, let’s see if I can actually pull this off.

Getting Started – The Prep Phase

First thing, I had to gather my arsenal. Watched the video a good five times, no joke, just to catch all the products they were flashing around. Some of it I had, some of it I had to make do with close enough alternatives. My vanity looked like a beauty store exploded, but hey, dedication, right?

So, I had my:

  • Primer (the sticky kind they all rave about)
  • Foundation (the one that promises to cover all your secrets)
  • Concealer (lots of it, apparently)
  • That contour stick everyone and their mother seems to own
  • Blush, highlighter, setting spray – the whole shebang.

Washed my face, slapped on some moisturizer, and took a deep breath. Here we go.

The Actual Attempt – Easier Said Than Done

The base part? That was okay. Primer, foundation, the usual. Blended it all out. So far, so good. I was feeling pretty confident, thinking, “Ha, this is easy!” Famous last words, people.

Then came the contouring part. The video made it look like a swipe here, a dab there, and boom – sculpted cheekbones. My reality was a bit more… muddy. First attempt, I looked like I’d wrestled a toddler who’d just eaten chocolate. Not the vibe I was going for. Wiped some of it off. Tried again. A little better, but still not quite that sharp, lifted look they all get.

The eye makeup was another adventure. This tutorial had a specific flick, a certain way to blend the shadow to make your eyes look bigger, or foxier, or whatever the trend was. My dominant hand? Nailed it, kinda. My other eye? Looked like its sad, lopsided cousin. It’s always the other eye, isn’t it? Had to break out the makeup remover wipes more than once. Patience, I told myself, patience.

I kept going back to the TikTok, pausing, rewinding. The creator did it so fast, so effortlessly. Meanwhile, I was over here sweating, trying to get my eyeliner wing to even remotely match the other one. They use these tiny brushes and make it look like child’s play. For me, it felt more like delicate surgery with a blunt instrument.

The Result – Well, I Tried

After what felt like an eternity, but was probably a solid hour, I stepped back. It wasn’t a total disaster, I’ll give myself that. Did I look like the super-polished TikTok influencer? Absolutely not. Not even close. But, you know, from a distance, in dim lighting, maybe it passed as a decent attempt.

My face felt like it had a ton of product on it, which is something they never really show – how heavy some of these looks can feel. But the overall shape, especially the blush and highlighter placement, did make a bit of a difference. I could see why the trend was popular, even if my execution was a bit… amateur hour.

So, yeah. That was my journey into the world of viral TikTok makeup. It’s definitely harder than it looks. Those folks make it seem like magic, but there’s a lot of skill, good lighting, and probably a filter or two involved. Still, it was fun to try, even if I won’t be quitting my day job to become a makeup influencer anytime soon.
