Alright, let’s talk about these New Balance 580s I got a while back.
My old sneakers were basically falling apart. You know how it is, the soles get worn down, they start looking sad. I needed something new, especially ’cause I’m on my feet quite a bit. Not running marathons or anything, just, you know, living life, walking around, sometimes standing for ages doing chores or whatever.
So I started looking. Didn’t want anything too crazy or expensive. Saw some pictures of the 580s, thought they looked kinda cool, a bit retro, chunky but not ridiculous. Remembered reading somewhere that New Balance was good for support, supposed to be comfortable. Figured I’d give ’em a shot.
Getting Them and First Thoughts
Went down to the store, tried them on. They felt different right away. Not like super soft pillows, more… solid? Yeah, firm is a good word. You can feel the structure under your foot. I walked around the shop a bit. They felt stable.
I did pay attention to the width. Sometimes New Balance can be a bit narrow on me, or maybe it was the other way around? Can’t quite recall which model, maybe those older ones I had years ago felt wider. Anyway, I made sure these 580s felt okay across the foot, didn’t want my toes squished. The size I usually wear seemed alright in the end.
Took them home. Started wearing them for my daily walks, trips to the grocery store, that kind of thing.
Wearing Them In
Here’s the thing:
- They definitely needed a little breaking in. Felt a bit stiff for the first few days.
- But after that, they molded to my feet pretty well.
- The support thing is real. My feet didn’t feel as tired after being out and about compared to my old shoes.
- They handle pavement, gravel paths, just general walking around really well. Solid grip.
- They’re not the lightest shoes ever, you feel them on your feet, but not in a bad way. Just substantial.
Been using them regularly now. They’re holding up good. Still feel supportive, haven’t gone all soft and useless. Cleaning is easy enough too, just wipe ’em down. For just a reliable, everyday shoe that gives good support and doesn’t look too weird, they’ve been pretty decent. Happy I picked them up, they do the job I needed them for.
