Okay, so I saw this trend going around, and you know I had to jump on it! It’s all about recreating celebrity Met Gala looks. And who better to inspire me than the queen herself, Doja Cat? I decided to tackle her 2022 Met Gala look. Let me tell you, it was a process.

Finding the Right Stuff
First things first, I needed to gather my materials. This wasn’t just a simple “throw on a dress” kind of situation. Doja’s look was all about that sparkly, almost liquid metal vibe, so I knew I needed some specific fabrics.
- Shiny Fabric: I spent, like, an hour at the fabric store just feeling different materials. Finally, I found this silver, stretchy fabric that had a decent sheen to it. Not exactly the same, but hey, it’s a recreation, not a replica!
- Sheer Black Fabric: This was for that, like, layered effect she had going on.
- Gems and Beads I found at a craft store a mixed-size pack of sticky rhinestones.
- Needle and Thread: I am not a seamstress, so this was daunting, but I powered through.
- Scissors
Putting It All Together
I started by draping the silver fabric over myself, trying to mimic the way Doja’s dress flowed. I pinned it in a few places, trying to get that asymmetrical look she had. It was a lot of trial and error, honestly. Lots of looking in the mirror and adjusting.
I had cut the fabric into the shape, and then I am hand-sewing the parts together with the needle and thread.
Then came the tricky part: the sheer black fabric. I carefully layered pieces of it over the silver, trying to create that delicate, almost see-through effect. I used some fabric glue to hold it in place because, again, sewing is not my forte.
I added the sticky rhinestones at ramdon. I also used some glue and added some of the tiny beads. It’s hard to do.

The Final Result
Okay, so it’s definitely not perfect. It’s nowhere near as polished and professional as Doja’s actual dress. But you know what? I’m pretty proud of it! It’s sparkly, it’s got that flowy vibe, and it kind of resembles the original. At least, I think it does.
The whole process took me a good few hours, and my fingers were definitely sore from all the pinning and (attempted) sewing. But it was super fun to try something new and get creative. Plus, I got some pretty cool photos out of it, so that’s a win in my book!
