Alright, so I figured it was time to switch things up a bit, hair-wise. Been rocking the same style for ages, felt kinda stale. I kept seeing these fade haircuts everywhere, looked pretty sharp, you know? Decided I’d give it a shot.

Getting Started – The First Attempt
Didn’t really know where to start. Like, there are tons of ’em. High fades, low fades, skin fades… it’s a whole thing. I just scrolled through some pictures online, trying to figure out what might look decent on me. Didn’t want anything too crazy for the first time.
So, I went down to my regular barber shop. Felt a bit awkward trying to explain what I wanted. Ended up pointing at a picture I saved, something like a mid-fade, not too drastic. My barber, Tony, he nodded, seemed to get it. He grabbed his clippers, and honestly, I was a little nervous.
He started right at the bottom, buzzing really close. That first pass with the zero guard felt super weird, cold air hitting my scalp where hair used to be. Then he worked his way up, changing guards, blending it all together. Took a while, lots of buzzing sounds. Concentration was key, for him I mean. I just sat there, hoping for the best.
Living With The Fade
When he spun the chair around, man, it was different. Really different. Super short on the sides and back, gradually getting longer towards the top. Looked clean, I gotta admit. Felt kinda weird though, running my hand over the sides, almost bare skin down low.
- Took a few days to get used to the look.
- Definitely felt cooler, especially in warmer weather.
- Realized it needs upkeep. Grows out kinda quick, loses that sharp look faster than my old style.
Found myself back at the barber maybe every three weeks or so to keep it looking fresh. Tried a low fade next time, then a slightly higher one. It’s kinda fun experimenting, seeing how small changes make a difference. Never went full skin fade though, maybe a bit much for me.

Overall, I’m digging it. It’s a sharp look, feels modern. Just gotta commit to the regular trims. If you’re thinking about it, I’d say go for it. Just find a decent barber who knows fades and maybe start with something less extreme first time around. That’s what worked for me, anyway.
