Okay, so I saw these crazy “Grinch Cleats” all over the internet and I just had to try making a pair myself. I mean, who wouldn’t want fuzzy green cleats for the holidays? I figured it’d be a fun little project. It was way more involved than I initially thought, though!
Getting Started
First, I needed some cleats. I grabbed an old pair I had lying around – nothing fancy, just some basic black ones. I figured a dark color would make the green fur pop more. Then came the fun part: finding the perfect Grinch-y fur.
I went to a couple of fabric stores, and let me tell you, finding the right shade of green and the right texture was a challenge. I wanted something that screamed “Grinch,” but also something that wouldn’t fall apart the second I stepped on the field. I finally found this fluffy, bright green faux fur that seemed like it would do the trick.
The Furry Mess
Next, I sketched a rough design, and decided that only applying some green fur on cleats. I used some strong fabric glue, and I will share that working with faux fur is MESSY. There were little green fuzzies everywhere. My workspace looked like the Grinch had exploded.
I carefully cut out pieces of the fur, trying to match them to the different sections of the cleats. I started with the sides, then moved on to the front and back. It was a slow process, making sure the fur was lined up right and that there weren’t any weird gaps. I used a TON of glue, and I definitely made a mess. I also used some clamps to hold the fur in place while the glue dried. Let me tell you, those things were lifesavers!
The Final Touches
Once the glue was mostly dry (which took forever), I trimmed any excess fur and made sure everything looked relatively even. Honestly, they looked pretty wild at this point. Like, I wasn’t sure if I’d actually wear them in public. But, I was committed!

To add a final detail, I used hot melt glue with litte “heart” details. It’s a small details for better looking.
The Result
After all that work, the Grinch cleats were finally done! They’re definitely… unique. I’m not sure I’d actually play a serious game in them, but they’re definitely a conversation starter. I’m probably just going to wear them to holiday parties or maybe just around the house to annoy my family. Mission accomplished, I guess!
Would I do it again? Maybe. It was a fun, albeit messy, project. If you’re thinking of trying it, my advice is: be patient, use lots of glue, and embrace the fuzz. You’ll need it.
