Okay, so I’d been thinking about changing up my look for a while. Nothing too crazy, you know? My hair’s naturally pretty dark, almost black. I saw some pictures online, folks with dark hair but with some lighter streaks, highlights they call ’em. Looked kinda cool, subtle but different.

I mulled it over for a good week or two. Was it worth the hassle? Would it look okay on me? You know how it is, you overthink these things. Finally, I just decided, what the heck, let’s give it a try. If it looks bad, hair grows back, right?
Getting it Done
So, I didn’t trust myself to do it at home. No way. Messing with bleach and stuff? Not for me. I found a local place, nothing fancy, and booked an appointment. Walked in, showed the lady a picture on my phone. She nodded, seemed to get what I wanted. Didn’t want bright blonde stripes, just something a bit lighter than my natural black, kinda woven in.
The whole process took a couple of hours.
- First, she sectioned off bits of my hair. Lots of little foil packets went in.
- Then there was the smelly stuff, the bleach I guess. Sat there feeling a bit silly with foil sticking out everywhere.
- Waited around, flipped through an old magazine.
- Then the wash out, some toner stuff she said, to make the color right.
- Finally, a quick trim and blow dry.
The Result
Looked in the mirror. Yeah, it wasn’t bad! It was subtle, like I wanted. Just some streaks, maybe a dark caramel color against the black? Hard to describe exactly. Not a massive change, but definitely noticeable if you looked closely. Felt a bit weird at first, seeing those lighter bits.
Living with it: It’s been a few weeks now. Washing it is normal, haven’t noticed any major issues. It just looks… different. Adds a bit of texture, I think. Caught my reflection the other day and thought, yeah, that was a decent move. Didn’t change my life or anything, but it’s a nice little update. Glad I finally just went and did it instead of just thinking about it forever.
