Okay, so, I’ve been rocking the same old dark brown hair for, like, forever, and I was getting seriously bored. I needed a change, you know? Something to just spice things up a bit. I was scrolling through my feed, and bam! I saw these amazing looks with black and brown highlighted hair. I was like, “That’s it! That’s what I need!”

So, I booked an appointment with my hairdresser. I showed her some pictures of what I wanted. Basically, I wanted to keep my dark brown as the base but add some brown highlights to give it some dimension and warmth. We talked about how light I wanted the highlights to be. I didn’t want anything too crazy, just something subtle yet noticeable.
First, she sectioned my hair – you know, the usual, clipping up the top and leaving the bottom layer loose. Then, she started with the highlights, it is a bit of a long process. She carefully picked out thin strands of hair from the bottom layer and painted them with the bleach. After that, she wrapped each strand in foil to let the bleach do its thing.
We did this for each section of my hair, layer by layer, moving from the bottom to the top. It took a while, but, honestly, it was kind of relaxing. Once all the highlights were in foils, I just had to sit and wait. My hairdresser checked on the progress every so often, making sure the bleach wasn’t over-processing my hair.
- Sectioning the hair
- Applying bleach to thin strands
- Wrapping each strand in foil
- Waiting for the bleach to process
When she decided it was time, she took me to the sink and washed out the bleach. Then came the toner. She explained that the toner helps to get rid of any brassy tones and gives the highlights the desired shade of brown. So, she applied the toner, let it sit for a bit, and then rinsed it out too.
Finally, she dried and styled my hair. And oh my gosh, I was so happy with the results! The brown highlights were exactly what I wanted – they added so much warmth and dimension to my dark hair without being too over the top. They looked natural, like the sun had kissed my hair. And the mushroom brown color that she toned them into, looked just fantastic! I love how it just made my curls pop up.

The Takeaway
If you’re thinking about getting black and brown highlights, I say go for it! It’s a great way to change up your look without doing anything too drastic. Just make sure you go to a good hairdresser who knows what they’re doing, and you’ll be golden. This is not a pro-style stuff, but I think it is good enough to share this with all of you. I really love this new hair!
