Twilight by Lush Dupe: Can You Find a Cheaper Alternative to This Popular Scent?

by Alice Browne

Okay, so, I wanted to try making a “Twilight” body spray, like the one from Lush. I heard it smells amazing, you know, all sweet and relaxing. I’m not really into super strong perfumes, so this seemed like a good one to start with.

First, I grabbed a bunch of stuff I thought I’d need. I got some essential oils, like lavender, ylang-ylang, and tonka bean. The tonka bean was kind of a wild card. I read online that it’s used in the real Twilight spray, so I figured I should add it to mine. I also got some perfumer’s alcohol, which I found is what they use to make the scent last longer, and some distilled water to mix everything together. I made sure I had a little spray bottle to put the final product in.

Then came the fun part – mixing! I started with the lavender oil. I love that smell. It just makes me feel all calm and sleepy. I added a few drops of that to my little bottle. Next, I put in some ylang-ylang. That one’s a bit more flowery, I guess you could say. It’s supposed to be good for relaxation too. Finally, the tonka bean oil. This one’s kind of sweet, a little like vanilla. It definitely made the whole thing smell richer. I then put all the other stuff into the bottle and closed it to shake it well.

I sprayed some on my wrist and, wow, it smelled pretty good! Not exactly like the Lush one, maybe, but still really nice. It was definitely calming, and the sweetness from the tonka bean made it unique. I wore it around the house for a few hours, and the smell stayed pretty well.

After a while, I decided to tweak it a bit. I added a tiny bit more lavender, thinking it could use a stronger floral note. I also read somewhere that vanilla enhances these kinds of scents, so I mixed in a little vanilla extract. I gave it another good shake and tried it again. It was even better! The vanilla really rounded out the scent. It became a little warmer and smoother.

My homemade Twilight spray might not be a perfect dupe for the Lush one, but I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It’s a sweet, relaxing scent that’s perfect for everyday wear. I’ve been spraying it on my pillow before bed, and it really does help me unwind. Plus, it’s way cheaper than buying the real thing! I might experiment with other essential oils in the future, but for now, I’m sticking with this blend. It was a fun little project, and I’m glad I gave it a go!
