How I Dug Through The Row’s New Lookbook
So last Tuesday, I finally carved out some time to check out The Row’s new Ready-to-Wear stuff everyone’s buzzing about. Booted up my laptop around noon after fighting with a slow wifi connection for ten minutes – seriously, needed three restarts. Grabbed my lukewarm coffee mug, already bitter because I forgot it sitting there, and headed straight to their site.
Clicked around the homepage feeling kinda lost at first – their layout’s super clean, maybe too clean sometimes. Took me ages to find the actual “Collection” link tucked away neat and discreet. Found the section titled something like “Ready-to-Wear Collection Lookbook – See Latest Styles Here,” or close enough. Hit that link fast.
The lookbook loaded slow. Like, picture-by-picture slow. Annoying, but whatever. Scrolled down expecting fireworks. Instead, just got hit with that classic Row vibe: quiet, expensive-looking fabrics hanging perfectly on impossibly tall models against plain backgrounds. No music, no fancy graphics, just clothes on display.
Here’s what went through my head as I scrolled:
- First thought: “Okay, lots of beige and black again. Big surprise.” Saw this long, drapey coat that looked like liquid. Wondered instantly if I could pull that off without tripping.
- Next: “Huh, baggy trousers everywhere.” Saw them paired with these fitted little tops. Made me think about digging through my own closet for similar combos.
- Then: “Silk! So much silk.” Slip dresses, shirts… everything looked slippery and rich. Immediately pictured coffee stains.
- Spotted some chunky knits. “Winter is coming,” I mumbled. Looked cozy but probably weighs a ton.
I wanted to understand how things might look on a normal human body, not a runway alien. Tried zooming in like crazy on the pics. Got pixelated instead of details. Frustrating. Wished they showed some wrinkles, how things moved… you know, real life stuff.
Tried imagining myself wearing some pieces:
- That super oversized blazer? Looked cool but felt like I’d drown in it. Where would I even wear it? Fancy grocery shopping?
- Loved the idea of a simple silk camisole. Then realized mine would bunch weirdly at the waist and show bra lines. Not the vibe.
- Saw leather trousers. Yeah, right. Maybe in my dreams. Or after winning the lottery so I could afford tailoring.
Spent maybe twenty minutes clicking back and forth between looks. Noticed how pieces kinda mix and match? Like they want you to layer that drapey coat over the baggy trousers and silk shirt. Looked effortless in the photos, but screamed “high maintenance ironing” in reality.
By the end, felt that familiar Row itch. Minimal, luxurious, totally impractical for my actual life. Admired it like art though. Closed the tab, feeling inspired but also poor. My practical takeaway? Maybe try copying the idea of their oversized fits or the silk top + trousers combo with stuff I already own. The actual pieces? Maybe someday, when my lottery ticket finally wins.
