Okay, let’s talk about dark red fashion, because I just went through a whole thing trying to put together a killer outfit. I love dark red, it’s like, so dramatic and powerful, you know? But it can also be kinda tricky to style without looking like you fell out of a vampire movie or something.

So, the first thing I did was to dig through my closet. And I found this amazing burgundy skirt that I’d totally forgotten about. I’m pretty sure it has some purple tones in it, because it has this deep, rich color that’s just gorgeous. I think it’s called burgundy or maroon or whatever.
Then, I had to figure out what to wear on top. I know some people say you should follow the “3 color rule”, like, pick one main color, then a second color for about a third of your outfit, and then an accent color. But honestly, I usually just go with my gut. But I did keep that rule in mind as I went through my clothes.
And then I was thinking about accessories. Like, if you’re wearing a bright red dress, black or white accessories are probably a safe bet. But since my skirt was dark red, I felt like I had more options. I tried on a few different things, and finally settled on a black belt with a silver buckle to cinch in the waist and a pair of silver earrings.
- That awesome burgundy skirt that I mentioned before.
- A black top. This is the secondary color of my outfit. I love how the black really makes the red pop.
- Black belt with a silver buckle. The silver just adds a bit of shine and keeps things interesting.
- Silver earrings. Just a touch of sparkle to complete the look.
- Black ankle boots. Gotta have some cool shoes, right?
Here’s what I ended up wearing:
I also heard that red looks best on people with darker skin tones and brown or grey hair. I’m not sure if that’s true, but I have brown hair, so maybe that’s why I felt so good in this outfit.
Anyway, I wore this outfit out to dinner with some friends, and I got so many compliments! I felt super confident and stylish, and I think I’ll be wearing this dark red look a lot more often. You should try styling a dark red outfit sometime! It might surprise you how good you look and feel.
