Rolls Royce Star Roof: See the magic behind twinkling lights.

Okay, so I’ve been seeing these “Rolls Royce star” ceilings all over TikTok and Instagram, and I was like, “I gotta have that in my car!” It looks so freakin’ cool, like you’re driving under a night sky. So, I decided to give it a shot myself. Let me tell you, it was a journey!

Getting Started

First, I ordered a fiber optic star kit online. There are tons of them, so I just picked one that seemed decent and had good reviews. Make sure you get one that’s long enough for your car’s roof! I also grabbed some basic tools: a screwdriver, some wire cutters, a drill (yeah, a drill!), and a whole lot of patience.

The Hard Part (Headliner Removal)

The scariest part was definitely taking down the headliner – that’s the fabric stuff on the roof of your car. I watched a bunch of YouTube videos on how to do it for my specific car model, which was super helpful. It involved unscrewing some trim pieces, unclipping some things… basically, gently prying everything apart without breaking anything. It took a while, and I was sweating bullets, but I finally got it down.

Mapping the Stars

With the headliner down, I laid it out on a big table. Then, I took the fiber optic strands and started planning out where I wanted the “stars” to be. I didn’t want them to be too uniform, so I just scattered them around randomly. I used a white marker to mark the spots on the back of the headliner where I wanted each star to go.

Drilling and Inserting

This is where the drill comes in. I used a tiny drill bit, just big enough for the fiber optic strands to fit through. I carefully drilled holes at each of the marked spots. Then, I poked each fiber optic strand through its hole from the back, so the end of the strand was sticking out on the front (the side that faces the inside of the car). It was tedious, but seeing it start to come together was pretty exciting.

Securing and Bundling

Once all the strands were through, I used a little bit of glue to secure them in place from the back. Just a tiny dab, so they wouldn’t fall out. Then, I gathered all the strands together into a bundle. This is what connects to the light source, which is usually a little box.

Reinstalling and Connecting

Now came the tricky part – putting the headliner back up! It was basically the reverse of taking it down, but even more nerve-wracking because I didn’t want to damage the fiber optics. I carefully clipped and screwed everything back into place, making sure the fiber optic bundle was accessible.

Power Up

Finally, I connected the fiber optic bundle to the light source and plugged the light source into a power source in my car. I used the cigarette lighter adapter that came with the kit. I turned it on… and BAM! My car had a starry night sky! I can Change the modes and the colors, twinkling or solid.

Worth It?

It was a lot of work, and I definitely had some moments of “What am I doing?!” But honestly, seeing the finished product makes it all worthwhile. Driving at night with the stars shining above is so cool. It definitely adds a unique and luxurious touch to my car.
