Rolex Explorer 14270: still a good watch? Find the best quality one.

by Alice Browne

So, I was digging around for a new watch, and this 14270 Explorer thing kept popping up. I’d heard of the Explorer before, you know, the whole Mount Everest vibe, but I never really looked into it.

First, I Googled the heck out of it. Images, articles, forum posts – you name it, I read it. I wanted to get a good feel for what this watch was all about.

The Hunt Begins

I started by checking out some of the bigger pre-owned watch sites. You know, the usual suspects. Just to see what the prices were like and what kind of condition these 14270s were typically in.

  • Looked at a few that were “pre-owned excellent.”
  • Checked a “vintage” one to see.
  • Even saw one that was listed as “unworn,” which I was a little skeptical of, to be honest.

Then, I hit up some watch forums. I figured the real enthusiasts would be there, and they might have some leads on where to find a good one. Plus, I could ask some newbie questions without feeling too dumb.

Getting My Hands Dirty (Almost)

I found a couple of sellers on the forums who seemed legit. We exchanged some messages, I asked a bunch of questions (probably annoying ones, now that I think about it), and I even got some extra photos of the watches.

And, after all it, I finally got a nice 14270 Explorer. I am very happy to wear it.

Looking back, I can say it’s a great exploration for myself.
