Today, I really want to talk about my recent obsession with a pair of shoes – the Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 in red. I’ve been eyeing these for a while, and let me tell you, the journey to finally getting them was quite something.

The Hunt Begins
It all started when I saw someone wearing them on the street. I was instantly drawn to the classic design and that vibrant red color. So, I started to look around, trying to find out what exactly these cool shoes were. I learned that they’re called the Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66, first introduced way back in 1966. Seems like they were a big deal for athletes back in the day, especially for the 1968 Summer Olympics. And those “Tiger Stripes”? They started with this shoe! I was hooked on the history alone.
Digging Deeper
I went online, and man, there was a ton of information. But the thing that really caught my attention was about the Nippon-made versions. They say that the factory in Japan only makes 90 pairs a day. 90! That’s because they’re handcrafted with crazy attention to detail, and each pair gets checked over like a hawk by these Japanese shoemakers. The idea that my shoes would be made with that much care just made me want them even more.
Authenticity Matters
Of course, with something this popular, there are bound to be fakes. I read up on how to spot real ones. The stitches are a big giveaway. Real Mexico 66s have these super fine, consistent stitches all over, especially around the top part. Fakes often have messy, uneven stitches. And the laces – apparently, fake ones tend to have looser laces.
The Search for My Size
Finding them in my size, in red, was a whole other challenge. I checked out all the usual online stores. Many shops didn’t have my size. Then I remembered one website that offers free shipping with Amazon Prime, and it was mentioned that the site has over 1 million visitors in the past month. I thought this was my best shot, so I checked it out, and guess what? They had it! I didn’t waste a second and immediately placed my order.
The Unboxing
When the package finally arrived, it felt like Christmas morning. I carefully opened the box, and there they were. The color was even better in person. I checked the stitches – perfect. The laces – nice and tight. I slipped them on, and it was like they were made for my feet.

Wearing Them Out
I’ve been wearing these shoes everywhere. They’re surprisingly comfortable, and they go with almost everything. Every time I wear them I think about the craftsmanship that goes into each pair. And yeah, I’ve gotten a few compliments, which is always nice.
So, that’s the story of my Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 red shoes. It wasn’t just about buying a pair of shoes; it was about the whole experience of finding them, learning about their history, and appreciating the quality. They’re more than just shoes to me now; they’re a little piece of history that I get to wear every day.
