Olive Skin Tone? These Nail Colors Will Look Amazing!

by Joyce Mackintosh

Okay, so I’ve been experimenting with nail colors lately, trying to figure out what actually looks good on my olive skin. It’s been a JOURNEY, let me tell you.

First off, I went straight for the nudes. I figured, can’t go wrong, right? Grabbed a few different shades – some more beige, some with a pink undertone. Slapped ’em on, and…blah. I looked washed out, like my hands were disappearing. Note to self: beige and brown nudes? Hard pass. They just blend in way too much and make my skin look kinda dull.

Then, I remembered reading something about olive skin looking good with pastels. So, next up: pastel pink! Found a really cute, soft pink. Put it on, and it was…okay. Not terrible, but not amazing either. It was kinda…there. It didn’t pop. I think maybe my skin tone needs something with a little more oomph.

Okay, time for a total 180. I went dark. Deep, vampy reds. YES. Immediately better. The contrast was amazing! My nails actually looked like they were supposed to be there. Plus, it made my skin look warmer, which I’m always trying to achieve.

  • Reds: A win. Especially those with a blue undertone.
  • Plums: Another win! Similar vibe to the reds, but a little more mysterious. I dig it.
  • Black: Surprisingly good! Edgy, but still sophisticated. Not an everyday color for me, but definitely a good option when I’m feeling bold.

Next up, I tried some jewel tones. Cobalt blue? AMAZING. Emerald green? Equally amazing. These bright, saturated colors really made my skin come alive. It’s like they brought out the yellow undertones in my skin and made it look glowy.

Here’s what I learned from all this: olive skin needs contrast and color. Anything too close to my skin tone just makes me look blah. Dark shades and bright, bold colors are the way to go. They make my skin look warmer, more vibrant, and just generally better.

I’m still experimenting, but for now, I’m sticking with the reds, plums, jewel tones and the occasional black moment. Oh, and I’m definitely avoiding anything beige or brown ever again!
