Okay, so check it out, I hit up this place called Motor City Pawn Shop in Roseville the other day. Been meaning to go for ages, just never got around to it.

First thing, parking was a breeze, which is always a win. Walked in, and the place was surprisingly clean and well-organized. Didn’t have that typical dusty, cluttered pawn shop vibe, you know?
I was on the hunt for a decent used guitar. My old acoustic is starting to sound like crap. I walked straight to the music section. They had a pretty good selection – a few acoustics, some electrics, even a bass. Nothing too fancy, mostly beginner to intermediate stuff, which is perfect for me.
Spotted this one acoustic, a Yamaha, looked like it was in decent shape. Picked it up, gave it a strum. Sounded okay, a little dull, but nothing a new set of strings couldn’t fix. Checked the neck – straight. Action was a little high, but again, easily adjustable.
Now came the awkward part – the price. Tag said $150. I figured, what the hell, let’s try to haggle a bit. I asked the guy behind the counter, “Hey, is there any wiggle room on this Yamaha?” He looked it over, gave it a strum himself, and said, “I can probably do $130.”
I countered with $110. He laughed, said, “Come on, man, meet me halfway at $120?” I thought about it for a second. Honestly, for a decent Yamaha acoustic in that condition, $120 wasn’t bad at all. I said, “Alright, you got a deal.”
Paid up, grabbed a guitar case they had lying around for an extra $10 (score!), and walked out a happy camper. Got it home, cleaned it up, threw on some new strings, and it sounds great!
Here’s the breakdown of the whole process:
- Went to Motor City Pawn Shop in Roseville.
- Headed straight for the music section.
- Found a used Yamaha acoustic guitar.
- Inspected it for damage and playability.
- Haggled the price down from $150 to $120.
- Bought a cheap guitar case for $10.
- Brought it home, cleaned it, and restrung it.
Overall, it was a pretty good experience. The staff was friendly, the prices were fair (especially after a little haggling), and I walked away with a decent guitar for a good price. Would definitely recommend checking it out if you’re in the market for something used.
Would I Go Back?
Yeah, probably. Seems like a good place to find some deals on stuff. Maybe next time I’ll look for some power tools!
