Okay, so I’ve been hearing a lot about “Nassau Royale” lately. It sounds like some fancy cocktail, and, well, I wanted to try making it myself. I’m no bartender, but I do enjoy a good drink now and then.
Gathering the Goods
First things first, I needed to figure out what even goes into this thing. I did a little digging around, found a recipe, and made a list. It seemed pretty straightforward – mostly rum, which I already had, some lime, and some other stuff I needed to grab.
- Rum: I had a decent bottle of dark rum sitting around.
- Pineapple Juice: Time for a quick store run.
- Lime Juice: Fresh is always best, so I picked up a few limes.
- Orange Liqueur: I grabed a small Cointreau.
- Simple Syrup: Easy enough to make – just sugar and water.
- Bitters: I had some Angostura bitters on hand.
- Club Soda: Just a splash, for a bit of fizz.
Mixing It Up
With all my ingredients assembled, it was time to get mixing. I don’t have any fancy cocktail shakers, so I just used a big mason jar with a lid. Seems to work just fine!
I started by squeezing the limes. That took a bit of effort, but fresh juice is totally worth it. Then, I measured out everything else, trying to follow the recipe as closely as I could. I poured it all into my makeshift shaker, added some ice, and gave it a good, hard shake.
The Taste Test
Finally, the moment of truth! I strained the mixture into a glass – I didn’t bother with anything fancy, just a regular old glass. Added a little splash of club soda on top, and…wow. It’s actually pretty good!
It’s sweet, but not too sweet, with a nice kick from the rum and a bit of tang from the lime and pineapple. I can definitely see why people like this drink. It’s kind of tropical and refreshing.
Final Thoughts
All in all, I’d say my first attempt at making a Nassau Royale was a success! It wasn’t perfect, and a real bartender could probably do a much better job, but I enjoyed it. Plus, it’s always fun to try making something new. Maybe next time, I’ll get a little more adventurous with the garnish – a pineapple wedge or a lime wheel would definitely dress it up a bit.
