Oh my god, it finally happened to me, a total nightmare – I spilled nail polish on my carpet! Red, of course, because why would it be a nice, subtle color? It looked like a tiny murder scene in my living room. I freaked out for, like, two seconds, and then I remembered, I’m a grown-up, I can handle this, I thought.

What did I do?
First things first, I grabbed a bunch of paper towels. I knew I couldn’t rub it, that would just make things worse. So I very, very carefully blotted at the spill. I’m talking super gentle dabbing here, trying to soak up as much of the wet polish as I possibly could without spreading it around.
Once I got the wet stuff up, it was still a pretty obvious stain. I ran to my computer to check any solution. They said that non-acetone nail polish remover. I tested it on a hidden part of the carpet first, under the sofa, just to make sure it wouldn’t, you know, bleach the whole thing white. Disaster averted, it seemed fine.
Then, applying a tiny bit of the remover to a clean cloth, I started working on the stain. Again, no rubbing! Just dabbing and blotting, dabbing and blotting. It took forever, and I may have used an entire roll of paper towels, but slowly but surely, the stain started to fade. It was seriously hard work, and my arm got tired, but I was determined.
- Dabbed up the wet polish.
- Tested non-acetone remover.
- Dabbed and blotted, dabbed and blotted…
After I couldn’t get any more of the color out, I mixed up a tiny bit of dish soap with warm water. I used a clean sponge to gently clean the area, just to get rid of any leftover residue from the nail polish remover. Then, I blotted the whole area dry with more paper towels.
So, yeah, it’s a process. The stain wasn’t completely gone, but it’s way, way less noticeable. I’m pretty sure with a bit more time, and maybe another round of cleaning, I can get it out completely.
