Marty McFly Watch Review: Is It Worth the Hype?

by Meredith Sassoon

Well, let me tell ya ’bout this here Marty McFly watch thing. I ain’t no fancy watch expert or nothin’, but I seen them movies, ya know? Back to the Future, they call it.

Marty McFly Watch Review: Is It Worth the Hype?

This Marty fella, he’s always lookin’ at his watch. Seems like it’s important, but it ain’t no gold watch with diamonds or nothin’. Just a plain ol’ watch, the kind you can get at the store for a few bucks, I reckon. Folks say it’s a Casio somethin’ or other. A CA-53W, they call it. Or maybe a CA-50? Honestly, I can’t keep track of all them numbers. They look the same to me, like two peas in a pod.

  • One thing’s for sure, it ain’t some fancy-pants watch. It’s a digital watch, the kind that shows the numbers right there, big and plain.
  • And it’s got a calculator on it, too. I guess that’s handy if you gotta add somethin’ up quick, like how much change you got left after buyin’ groceries.

Now, some folks get all worked up about which movie Marty wore which watch in. They say he had one kinda watch in the first movie, and then a different one in the second. But honestly, who cares? It’s just a watch, ain’t it? It tells the time, and that’s all that matters, far as I’m concerned.

There’s this one part in the movie where Marty’s watch stops workin’. He shakes it and shakes it, like he’s tryin’ to wake it up or somethin’. Then he puts it up to his ear, listenin’ for a tick-tock sound. That always makes me chuckle, ’cause them digital watches don’t tick-tock, do they? They just show the numbers. It’s like he forgot what kind of watch he had for a minute there. Maybe he was just frustrated, ya know? When things ain’t workin’ right, you just wanna shake ’em sometimes.

And it seems like Marty’s always checkin’ his watch when things are goin’ crazy. Like when he’s tryin’ to get back to the future, or when he’s tryin’ to save Doc Brown from them cowboys. He’s gotta know what time it is, gotta make sure he don’t miss his chance. So I guess that watch is pretty important to him after all.

Some folks, they collect these watches, you know? They pay good money for ’em, too. I guess it’s ’cause it reminds ’em of the movie, or maybe they just like the way it looks. It ain’t nothin’ fancy, like I said, but it’s got a certain somethin’, I guess. It’s a classic, they call it. Like them old cars or them old songs. They just stick around, even when there’s newer, fancier stuff out there.

Marty McFly Watch Review: Is It Worth the Hype?

I saw on TV once, there’s magazines about watches, just watches! Can ya believe that? They write about all kinds of watches, expensive ones, cheap ones, old ones, new ones. I bet they wrote about Marty’s watch in there, too. They probably said all kinds of fancy words about it, stuff I wouldn’t understand. But me, I just see a plain ol’ watch. A watch that tells the time and helps Marty McFly get back to where he belongs.

Digital watches like Marty’s might not be for everyone, but they sure are handy. You don’t gotta wind ’em up or nothin’, just put a battery in and they go. And they’re tough, too. They can take a beatin’, just like Marty’s watch. He’s always runnin’ and jumpin’ and gettin’ into scrapes, but that watch keeps on tickin’… or buzzin’, I guess. No tickin’ in a digital watch.

So, that’s what I know about the Marty McFly watch. It ain’t much, I reckon, but it’s somethin’. It’s a watch that tells time, a watch that helps Marty McFly, and a watch that some folks get all excited about. Me, I’m just glad it helped him get back to his own time, ’cause that fella sure had a lot of adventures.

And if you’re lookin’ to buy a watch like Marty’s, well, good luck to ya. Just remember, it ain’t the watch that makes the man, it’s the man that makes the watch… or somethin’ like that. Anyway, that’s my two cents on the matter. Hope it made some sense to ya.
