Okay, so the weather started getting really warm, you know? That sticky kind of heat where your hair just feels like a heavy, wet blanket glued to your head. I couldn’t stand it anymore. My usual cut was growing out, getting way too long, especially around the neck and ears. It was just time. Had to get it chopped for summer.

Figuring Out What to Do

First thing, I had to decide what kind of cut. I’m not fancy. Didn’t want anything complicated that needs goo or lots of fixing every morning. Just needed something practical. My main goals were pretty simple:

  • Short: Get the bulk off, especially on the sides and back.
  • Easy: Wake up and basically be ready to go.
  • Cool: Like, actually cooler temperature-wise. Let the scalp breathe!

I thought about maybe a buzz cut, but that felt a bit too extreme for me right now. So, I figured I’d just ask the barber to take it short on the sides, maybe a number 2 or 3 clipper, and leave a little bit more on top, just enough to style slightly if I felt like it, but short enough that it wouldn’t flop around or get hot. Basically, a standard short back and sides, nothing groundbreaking.

Getting it Done

Went down to my usual place. It’s nothing special, just a local barber shop, but they know how I generally like it, even though this time I wanted it shorter than usual. Waited my turn, flipping through some old magazine they had lying around. Finally, it was my go.

Sat down in the chair. Threw the cape thing over me. Told the barber, “Going shorter for the summer. Tight on the sides and back, maybe a number 2? And take a good amount off the top too, keep it neat.” He nodded, seemed to get it. Didn’t need much explaining.

Then came the clippers. That buzzing sound right next to your ear. You feel the vibration more than anything. Watched chunks of hair fall down onto the cape. He worked his way around the back and sides pretty quick. Then he switched to scissors for the top, snipping away. Asked me if the length looked okay on top before he went too short. I glanced in the mirror, yeah, looked about right. He finished up, tidied the edges with the trimmer, quick shave on the back of the neck. That cold shaving cream always feels good.

The Result

And bam, done. He brushed off the loose hairs, took the cape off. Felt instantly lighter. Ran my hand over the back of my neck – super short, felt clean. Looked in the mirror again. Yep, that’s a summer haircut alright. Simple, short, exactly what I needed.

Paid the man, walked outside into the heat, and honestly? The difference was amazing. Felt the breeze on my scalp properly for the first time in ages. No more sweaty neck hair. It’s just one less thing to worry about when it’s boiling hot outside. Definitely the right move. Just a simple, practical cut to get through the summer months. Job done.
