Okay, so I’ve been digging into this whole Liza Halston thing. It’s wild how much influence one person can have on fashion, right? I started by just trying to get a handle on who Halston was. Turns out, his full name was Roy Halston Frowick, but everyone just called him Halston.

I watched this Netflix show about him, and it got me hooked. I mean, the guy was huge in the Studio 54 days. So, I watched the show, and honestly, it was the clothes that really caught my eye. They were so simple, yet so elegant. I dove into some articles.
Then, I tried to see how his style affected other designers. Apparently, Tom Ford’s stuff in the late 90s was heavily inspired by Halston. I pulled up some images of Ford’s collections from back then, and yeah, I totally see the resemblance. Especially those body-skimming silk chiffon caftans and jersey wraparound dresses that Halston was famous for. They were all about making women look effortlessly glamorous.
I started sketching out some designs. I’m no designer, but I grabbed some fabric, and tried draping it. That was way harder than it looks! Those simple looks were actually super complicated to make.

- Tried sketching some designs inspired by Halston and experimented with fabric draping.
I also found out that Halston was a big influence on Liza Minnelli’s style. I watched some old videos of her performing, and she just oozed confidence in those outfits. So, I guess that’s what I’m taking away from all this: how fashion can be about more than just clothes. It’s about confidence, movement, and feeling good in your own skin. I even tried to experiment with some of the jewelry styles that Rihanna wears, to see if I could pull off a look like that. I failed miserably but it was fun!
Anyway, that’s my little deep dive into the world of Halston. It was a fun ride, and I learned a lot. Plus, now I have a new appreciation for all those designers out there who make it look so easy!
