Leggings to Work Outfit Dos and Donts: Look Polished, Not Sloppy!

by Afra Jennings

Okay, so, I’ve been seeing everyone talk about wearing leggings to work and I was like, “No way, that’s too casual.” But then I thought, “Why not give it a shot?” So, I decided to try it out and document my whole experience, for myself and for sharing. Here is my share.

Leggings to Work Outfit Dos and Donts: Look Polished, Not Sloppy!

First thing I did was go through my closet and find a decent pair of leggings. I picked out a pair that is black and not see-through at all—that’s super important for work. I found my leggings that are thick enough. So far so good.

Next, I needed a top. I read somewhere that you shouldn’t wear tight tops with leggings at work, makes sense. I chose a long, flowy blouse that covers my butt. It’s a nice, professional-looking one. I also grabbed a blazer to add that formal touch. I think it was also suggested by an article on the internet. I try them on, looks balanced and not too casual.

Shoes were next on my list. I picked out some nice, flat shoes. I think I need something comfy but still office-appropriate. Ballet flats seemed like a good choice.

Time for accessories! I put on a simple necklace and a watch. Nothing too flashy, just enough to make the outfit look put together. I remember seeing somewhere that you can add delicate jewelry, so I did.

Then, I put on the whole outfit. Leggings, blouse, blazer, flats, and accessories. I checked myself in the mirror. I think it looked pretty good! It felt like a good balance between comfy and professional.

I wore this outfit to work the next day. It was a bit nerve-wracking at first, but I felt comfortable all day. I could move around easily, sit comfortably, and still look like I made an effort.

  • Avoid tight tops: Don’t wear tight tops with leggings.
  • Choose the right top: I wore a loose, long blouse.
  • Add a blazer: A blazer made the outfit look more formal.
  • Pick comfy shoes: Ballet flats were perfect.
  • Add some jewelry: A simple necklace and watch made it polished.

I even got a couple of compliments from my coworkers! They said I looked nice and asked where I got my blouse. It was a good feeling. At the end of the day, I realized that wearing leggings to work can actually work if you do it right. I think the key is to balance the casualness of the leggings with more formal pieces.

I’m definitely going to try this again. Maybe next time, I’ll try a different top or add a cardigan instead of a blazer. It’s all about experimenting and finding what works best for you. I also saw people wearing crewneck sweaters, so maybe I’ll try that too. Just sharing my little experiment with you all. Hope it’s helpful!
