Okay, so I’ve been seeing this “Spongebob disco” thing pop up all over my feed lately, and you know me, I gotta try everything at least once. It looked kinda goofy, but also kinda fun, so I figured, why not? Let’s give it a shot.

First off, I had no clue what I was doing. I mean, I’ve seen Spongebob, but I never really paid attention to how he dances. So, I did what any normal person would do – I went down a search engine rabbit hole. Turns out, this Spongebob dance is actually a thing. It’s not just some random flailing around. There are actual steps! Who knew?

I found a bunch of videos, some better than others. Some were just people goofing off, but a few were actual tutorials. I picked one that looked simple enough, the music was a little outdated. The video quality wasn’t great, but hey, it was free, and it got the job done. The guy in the video, he’s some kind of disco teacher named Franco or something, and he made it look easy. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t as easy as it looked.

So, I cleared out some space in my living room, put on the video, and started following along. First step, you gotta step to the side with one foot. Okay, not too bad. Then you bring the other foot over, kind of like you’re crossing your legs. Still manageable. Then it gets tricky. You gotta hop, and kick one leg out, while kind of twisting your body. Yeah, that’s where I started to struggle.

  • Step 1: Step to the side.
  • Step 2: Cross your feet.
  • Step 3: Hop, kick, and twist.

I kept tripping over my own feet, bumping into furniture, and generally looking like a fool. My cat was watching me from the couch, and I swear she was judging me. I probably spent a good hour just trying to get the basic steps down. I was sweating, out of breath, and my legs were starting to ache, but I was determined to nail this thing.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, I started to get the hang of it. I wouldn’t say I was good, but I was definitely improving. I could actually do the steps without falling over! I even started to add a little bit of my own flair to it, which mostly involved flailing my arms around like a madman. But hey, it was fun!

The Result

By the end of the day, I could sort of do the Spongebob dance. I wouldn’t say I’m ready to hit the dance floor or anything, but I can at least follow along with the video now. It’s a pretty good workout, actually. I was definitely feeling it in my legs the next day. And honestly, it was just a lot of fun to let loose and be silly for a while. I totally get why people are into this now. So if you are searching for a way to have fun, try it, it will make you laugh.

Would I do it again? Absolutely! It’s a great way to get some exercise, have a laugh, and maybe even impress your friends with your newfound dance skills. Just make sure you have plenty of space, and maybe warn your pets beforehand.
