Okay, so I’ve been messing around with jewelry design lately, and let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride. I started with absolutely zero clue, just a Pinterest board full of sparkly things and a vague idea that I wanted to make something “lavish.”

First, I gathered some basic supplies. I’m talking cheap beads, some wire, pliers – the whole nine yards. I didn’t want to invest too much before I even knew if I could string two beads together without poking myself.
The Messy Beginning
- Attempt 1: Tried to make a necklace. It ended up looking like something a toddler threw together. Uneven, lumpy, and the clasp didn’t even work.
- Attempt 2: Decided to try earrings. Simpler, right? Wrong. I managed to bend the wire into all sorts of weird shapes, and they definitely weren’t matching.
- Attempt 3: I get it, I can make it.
I watched a bunch of YouTube tutorials. Seriously, bless those patient souls who share their skills online. I learned about different types of wire, how to use jump rings (those little circle things), and basic beading techniques.
Then, I started experimenting. I played around with different color combinations, bead sizes, and wire gauges. I made a lot of ugly things, ngl. But slowly, I started to get the hang of it. I could actually make a loop that looked like a loop, and my wire wrapping started to look less like a tangled mess and more, well, intentional.
Getting Somewhere!
I focused on getting the basics down. Practice is really key, even it’s just making simple things.
After a while, I felt brave enough to try something a little more ambitious. I sketched out a design for a necklace with multiple strands and some fancy-looking beads I’d splurged on. It was still pretty rough, but it was my rough design.

And I done. Not perfect, of course, but, I made it!
