Okay so last week I noticed my green face Cartier watch looking kinda dull. That emerald dial wasn't shining like it used to, plus some gunk built up around the crown. Figured it was time for a proper clean instead of just wiping it on my shirt.
Stuff I Grabbed
- Soft microfiber cloth (the kind for glasses)
- Old toothbrush with super soft bristles
- Lukewarm water in a small bowl
- Dish soap – just a tiny drop
- Q-tips
First thing, I popped the leather strap off carefully. Didn't wanna get that wet at all. Then I dipped the toothbrush in plain water and gently scrubbed the bracelet links. Saw some dark bits coming out from between the links – gross but satisfying.
Next mixed that single drop of soap into the water. Dunked the toothbrush again, shook off extra water, and lightly brushed the watch case and back. Avoided the dial completely – soap shouldn't touch that green face! Used damp Q-tips around the crown to dig out grime. Took patience working around those tiny screws.
The Delicate Part
For the actual emerald dial, I held my breath. Just used the dry microfiber cloth folded into a point. Polished it in tiny circles super gently, no pressure at all. Saw fingerprints disappear and that deep green started glowing again underneath.
Rinsed the whole watch under slow running water – held it sideways so no water pressure hit the face directly. Dried everything immediately with the cloth, even blew on the crown gaps to chase water out. Let it air dry for 15 minutes before strapping it back on.
Honestly shocked how much brighter it looks now. That green just pops under light, and the steel parts look brand new. Whole process took maybe 20 minutes? Way better than paying a fortune for professional cleaning. Just do it gently – scratches ain't worth rushing.
