Okay, let’s talk about this Louis Vuitton tote bag, the ‘tragetasche’ as some might call it.

Getting Started
So, I needed a new bag. Not just any bag, mind you. My old one was falling apart, threads everywhere, just looked sad. I carry a lot of stuff around daily, you know, the usual junk, plus sometimes groceries or work bits. Needed something tough, something that wouldn’t quit on me after six months.
I started looking around. Saw a lot of folks carrying these LV totes. They looked sturdy, I guess. Never really been a ‘luxury brand’ person myself. Always seemed like a lot of money for a name. But I kept seeing them, and they did look like they could take a beating.
Doing the Research (Sort Of)
Went online, typed it in. Bam. Price hit me like a ton of bricks. Seriously? For a tote bag? My first thought was, no way. Absolutely not. But then I remembered chatting with someone, or maybe I read it somewhere, about how these things supposedly don’t lose their value much. Like, you buy it, use it, and it’s still worth something later. Not like my usual bags that end up in the bin.
That got me thinking. Maybe it’s not just spending money, but like… parking it somewhere? Still felt weird. A bag isn’t stocks or gold. It’s a bag. But the idea stuck in my head. Plus, I figured, if it’s that expensive, it must be made well, right? Should last longer than the cheap ones I keep replacing.
Taking the Plunge
After humming and hawing for what felt like weeks, I decided to just go for it. Found a store. Walking in felt a bit strange, not my usual scene. Everything was very shiny and quiet. Found the tote bag section. Picked one up. Felt… substantial. Heavy canvas, thick leather handles. Looked simple enough, which I liked. No crazy designs, just the classic pattern.

Paid the money. Ouch. That part definitely hurt the wallet. Walked out with this fancy box and bag, feeling a mix of silly and maybe a tiny bit satisfied. Like I’d bought something ‘proper’.
Using the Thing
Got it home, took it out. Started using it the next day. Threw my keys, wallet, a book, even a water bottle in there. Took it to the supermarket. Felt a bit self-conscious at first, putting milk and bread into this pricey bag. Seemed wrong somehow.
- First few weeks: Used it constantly. Got rained on once or twice. Wiped it down. Seemed fine.
- Handles: The leather handles started to feel softer, more broken in. That was nice.
- Space: It holds a surprising amount of stuff, gotta admit. Deeper than it looks.
Living With It
It’s been a while now. The bag’s holding up. Got a few scuffs, a small mark on the bottom corner, but nothing major. It does its job, carries my stuff from A to B. It’s definitely tough material. Hasn’t ripped or frayed like the others always did.
Do people notice it? Sometimes, yeah. You get a few looks. Does it make me feel ‘higher status’ like some articles suggest? Nah, not really. It’s just my carry-everything bag. Maybe it holds its value, maybe it doesn’t. Haven’t tried selling it, probably won’t. I bought it to use it.
So, was it worth it? Hard to say. It cost a bomb. But it’s lasted way longer than any other tote I’ve owned. It does the job well. If it keeps going like this for a few more years, then maybe, just maybe, the cost-per-use thing will actually work out. It’s a solid, well-made bag. An expensive one, for sure. But solid.
