Okay, let’s talk about this plastic strap watch thing. Not the whole watch, mind you, just the strap part. My old leather one got pretty gross, you know how they do, soaking up sweat and whatnot. Decided I needed something practical, something I could just wipe clean.

So, I went and got myself one of these basic plastic straps. Nothing fancy, just plain black. Cheap as chips, which was the main point, really.
Getting it Done
First thing was getting the old strap off. That was a bit of a wrestle. Those spring bars, you know? Tiny little things. I didn’t have a proper tool, just used a small flathead screwdriver I had lying around. Pushed down on the spring bar shoulder, wiggled it a bit, and finally, the old strap popped off. Did the same for the other side. Took a few tries, my fingers aren’t exactly nimble anymore.
Putting the new plastic strap on was next. This was fiddly too. You gotta line up one end of the spring bar in the little hole on the watch lug, then compress the other end and try to guide it into the opposite hole. The plastic strap was a bit stiff compared to the old leather one.
- Lined up the spring bar.
- Compressed the spring bar end (again with the screwdriver).
- Slid it into place. Heard a little click. That’s what you want.
- Gave it a gentle tug to make sure it was secure.
Did the same for the other piece of the strap. Took maybe ten minutes altogether, mostly just fumbling around.
How It Feels Now
So, now the watch has this plastic strap. Feels… well, it feels like plastic. It’s not uncomfortable, exactly, but you know it’s there. Doesn’t breathe like leather, obviously. Got a bit sweaty under there the other day when I was working outside.

But here’s the thing: it does exactly what I wanted. It’s durable, doesn’t seem to scratch easily, and when it gets dirty? I just run it under the tap or wipe it with a damp cloth. Easy. No fuss.
End of the day, it works. It keeps the watch on my wrist, it was cheap, and it’s practical for everyday wear and tear. Not gonna win any style awards, but that wasn’t the goal. Just needed something functional, and that’s what I got. Job done.
