How to Shave Before Fake Tanning for Beginners (Tips for a Smooth Finish)

Okay, so, let’s talk about shaving and fake tan. I’ve been trying to get that perfect glow, you know, but without the sun damage. So, fake tan it is. But, man, it’s not as easy as it looks.

First things first, I figured I needed to shave before I put on the tan. I mean, I didn’t want to shave it off after, right? So, I jumped in the shower and started shaving. I made sure to use a good shaving cream, something without alcohol, because someone told me that’s important.

Then, I read somewhere that you should wait about 24 hours after shaving before you put on the fake tan. Apparently, it gives your skin a chance to chill out and not get all irritated. I had to plan this whole thing out because I wanted to look good for a party on Saturday. So I shaved on Thursday night, thinking I was all set.

  • Shave at least 24 hours before applying fake tan.
  • Use an alcohol-free shaving cream.
  • Wait for the skin to recover before applying the tan.

Friday night rolled around, and I decided to exfoliate. I used this gentle scrub I found at the store, and I rubbed it all over my legs and arms in circles. I even put some lotion on the dry spots, like my elbows and knees, because I heard that helps the tan look even.

Finally, Saturday morning came, and it was tanning time. I picked up the fake tan lotion and started applying it. I tried to use long, even strokes, like I saw in a video. It was kind of messy, but I managed to cover everything. I even put on two layers because, why not? I wanted to be extra bronze. But, for the feet I only did one because it looks weird to do more than one.

The whole process took forever, but I think it was worth it. I looked pretty good, if I do say so myself. I followed some other advice and ended my shave with a cold water rinse, too. It felt weird, but it’s supposed to close your pores. I just hope I don’t get those weird brown spots in my pores. I really think it was worth it in the end though.

Next time, I might try a different brand of fake tan, but overall, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It’s definitely a learning process, but I’m getting there. Now I know to not shave and tan too close to each other. I learned that the hard way!
