Alright, let’s gab about this LVMH Prize thingy, the 2024 one. I heard they’re givin’ away a whole heap of money, like 400,000 euros! That’s a lot of dough, even I can figure that out. And they ain’t just throwin’ money at folks, they’re helpin’ ’em out too. Mentorship, they call it. Teachin’ the young’uns how to make clothes and sell ’em, I reckon.
Now, who’s this prize for? Young fashion folks, they say. Gotta be between 18 and 40 years old, and they need to have made at least two sets of clothes, collections, they call it. Sounds fancy, huh? They gotta apply online, at some website, lvmhprize somethin’ somethin’. They were takin’ names up till January somethin’ this year, for the next one comin’ up, I think.
- Big Money: Winner gets 400,000 euros. That’s a lot, like I said.
- Help and Guidance: They get experts to help them learn the business.
- Young Designers: For people 18 to 40 who make clothes.
- Gotta Apply: They need to sign up on a website.
They had some big to-do, a fancy party I bet, where they gave out the prize this year. September, I think it was. A couple of fellas, Derek Blasberg and Wisdom Kaye, were yappin’ at the front, announcin’ who won and all that. And there’s another prize too, the Savoir-Faire prize, that fella Michael Stewart won. He got 200,000 euros and some help too. Good for him, I say.
This whole thing is run by some big company, LVMH. They own all sorts of fancy stores, I hear. Sellin’ high-falutin’ clothes and bags and such. There’s another company like ’em, Kering, they call it. They got Gucci and them other brands. Sounds like a bunch of rich folks fightin’ over who gets to sell the most expensive stuff, if you ask me.
So, this LVMH Prize, it’s a big deal for these young fashion folks. Gives ’em a chance to make a name for themselves, and get some money to do it. They had a semi-final thingy in March, whittlin’ down the crowd, I guess. And then the big finale, where they pick the winner. Must be nerve-wrackin’ for them young’uns.
They’re plannin’ the next one already, the 12th edition, they’re callin’ it. Applications open in November, they say. So, if you know any young whippersnappers makin’ clothes, tell ’em to get on it. Might be their chance to hit the big time. And hey, even if they don’t win the big prize, they might get some help and learn somethin’. That’s always a good thing, right?
This LVMH, they’re serious about this fashion stuff. They don’t just give out money, they help these designers with all sorts of things. Sustainable development, that’s important these days, gotta be good to the earth, they say. And communication, how to talk about their clothes and get people to buy ‘em. Copyright and legal stuff too, makin’ sure nobody steals their ideas. And then there’s marketing, manufacturin’, and all that money stuff. Sounds complicated, but I guess that’s what it takes to make it in the fancy clothes business.
Anyways, that’s the gist of it, as best as I can tell. Big prize, lots of money, help for young designers. Sounds like a good thing, I guess. Gives them young folks a chance to chase their dreams, and maybe make somethin’ of themselves. And hey, maybe one day I’ll see one of their fancy clothes in the store window and say, “I heard about that fella, he won that LVMH Prize.” You never know.
