So, goth shoes. It wasn’t like a sudden switch for me. I just remember looking at my regular sneakers and boots one day and thinking, man, this is kinda boring. Needed something with a bit more… personality, you know?

I started poking around online mostly. Saw tons of stuff. Huge platforms, crazy buckles, chains everywhere. Some looked cool, some looked like way too much effort. It took me a while to sort through it all. I wasn’t trying to join a specific club, just wanted shoes that felt more like me.

Finding the First Pair

I spent ages just browsing, comparing styles. Lots of window shopping online. Finally decided to pull the trigger on a pair of pretty standard black platform boots. Nothing too wild, but definitely chunkier than anything I owned. Ordered them and then just waited. Felt like forever.

When the box finally showed up, I was actually kinda nervous opening it. Pulled them out. Heavier than I expected. Solid. Tried them on in my living room. Felt weirdly tall. Walked around a bit, felt kinda clunky at first. Definitely had to get used to the extra weight and height.

Wearing Them Out

First time I wore them out? Yeah, felt a bit self-conscious. Like, are people staring at my feet? Probably not, but it felt like it. But also, it felt good. Like standing a bit taller, literally and figuratively. Gotta admit, they weren’t super comfy right off the bat. Had a few blisters the first few times. Break-in period was real.

  • Learned quickly you gotta wear the right socks.
  • Realized walking on uneven ground needs more attention.
  • They definitely made a statement, even the simple pair I started with.

Building the Collection (Slowly)

After getting used to the first pair, I started looking again. This time I knew a bit more about what I liked. Maybe something with a few buckles? Considered creepers for a bit, tried some on in a store once, but wasn’t sure. Stuck mostly with boots. Picked up another pair, slightly different style, maybe a bit more detail.

Durability became a thing. Found out pretty quick that some of the cheaper ones just fall apart. Learned to look for better construction, even if it cost a bit more. It’s annoying when a sole starts flapping off after a few months.

Where I’m At Now

Do I still wear them? Yeah, absolutely. Not every single day, maybe. Depends on what I’m doing, where I’m going, the weather. Comfort is definitely more of a factor for me these days. But I’ve got a few pairs that I love, that are broken in just right. They’re part of my rotation.

It was a process, finding the styles I liked, figuring out what worked for me. It wasn’t about following a strict goth look, more about finding footwear that felt solid, interesting, and just a bit different from the mainstream stuff. And yeah, they still make me feel kinda cool when I put them on.
