Okay, so I finally got around to trying my hand at making a perfume! I’ve been wanting to do this for ages, ever since I got super into essential oils. This time I decided to call it “zest for life perfume”, sounds fancy huh? Here’s how it all went down:

First things first, I did a bunch of research. I spent like a whole afternoon just reading articles and watching YouTube videos about perfume making. It was a rabbit hole, but I learned about top notes, middle notes, and base notes, which is all super important.
Then, I gathered my supplies. I already had a bunch of essential oils, but I needed a carrier oil and some small glass bottles. I ended up using jojoba oil because I heard it’s good for the skin. As for the bottles, I found some cute little ones on amazon for cheap.
Next up, the fun part – blending! I decided I wanted something citrusy and uplifting. After a whole bunch of sniffing and experimenting, I settled on a combination of:
- Top notes: Lemon and grapefruit
- Middle notes: Bergamot
- Base notes: Cedarwood
I started by adding the base notes to a small beaker, then the middle notes, and finally the top notes. I did it drop by drop, constantly sniffing and adjusting. It was a bit of a guessing game, but that’s part of the fun!
Once I was happy with the blend, I added the jojoba oil. I followed a recipe I found online that recommended a certain percentage of essential oils to carrier oil. Honestly, I didn’t measure perfectly, I just eyeballed it. I’m a rebel like that.

After that, I carefully poured the mixture into my little glass bottles. I let it sit for a few days, because that’s what all the experts say you should do to let the scents meld together.
Finally, the moment of truth! I put some on and… it actually smelled pretty good! It wasn’t exactly the same as the fancy perfumes you buy in the store, but it had a nice citrusy scent that definitely gave me a little “zest for life”.
The verdict? I’d totally do it again! It was a fun and creative way to use my essential oils, and I ended up with a perfume that I actually like. If you’re looking for a new hobby, give perfume making a try!
