Alright everyone, settle in, because I just had one of those little DIY wins that I absolutely have to share. You know how sometimes you see something, or just get a random idea, and you think, “I could totally make that”? Well, that was me this past weekend with a phone keychain, but I wanted it to have that specific, clean, kinda cool Glossier vibe. You know, minimalist but still super cute.
My Mission: The Glossier-Inspired Phone Charm
So, the first thing I did was rummage through my craft supplies. I was on a mission! I knew I wanted a certain color palette – soft pinks, maybe some clear beads, and definitely white. I remembered I had this little pouch of mixed beads from ages ago, and thankfully, there were some perfect candidates in there. I also had some sturdy nylon cord, the kind you use for jewelry making, which I figured would be strong enough to handle daily phone life.
The crucial part, I thought, would be finding a little something to make it scream “Glossier” without, you know, actually being official merch. I didn’t have a tiny “G” charm lying around, unfortunately. But then I spotted it – a very sleek, cylindrical bead that kinda reminded me of their Balm Dotcom tube shape. Perfect! Subtle, but if you know, you know.
Getting Down to Business: The Assembly Line (aka My Desk)
Okay, so I gathered all my bits and pieces:
- The nylon cord, cut to what I thought was a good length (always cut more than you think you need, trust me on this one!).
- A selection of pink, white, and clear seed beads.
- That special cylindrical bead.
- A small phone lanyard loop thingy – the little short cord with a loop at one end that you attach through your phone case.
My process was pretty straightforward. I started by folding the main nylon cord in half to create a loop at one end. This is where I’d eventually attach it to the phone lanyard piece. Then, I began stringing the beads. I didn’t have a super strict pattern in mind, I just sort of went with what felt right, alternating colors and sizes a bit to give it some texture. I threaded both ends of the cord through the beads, which can be a bit fiddly, but patience is key!
Once I had a length I was happy with, I added my “Balm Dotcom” bead. This was going to be the centerpiece, so to speak. After that, I added a few more small beads to balance it out.
The next step was securing everything. I took the two ends of the cord and tied them in a really, really tight double knot. Then, for extra security, I added a tiny dab of super glue to the knot – just a speck, so it wouldn’t be visible but would keep things from unraveling. I let that dry for a bit.
Finally, I took the loop I made at the very beginning (before stringing the beads) and threaded it through the small loop of the phone lanyard attachment. Then I passed the beaded end of my keychain through its own loop to create a secure hitch. You know, that standard way you attach a charm.
The Grand Reveal!
And honestly? It turned out so much cuter than I even expected! It’s not over the top, just a nice little bit of personality for my phone. It’s got that clean, fresh look I was going for. I’ve already had it on my phone for a day and it just makes me happy when I see it. It’s light, doesn’t get in the way, and feels pretty sturdy.
What I learned: Next time, I might try to find even smaller, more delicate beads for an even more understated look. And maybe I’ll hunt for a tiny initial charm to add! But for a quick weekend project, I’m super pleased. It’s amazing what you can whip up with a few basic supplies and a bit of inspiration!
