Alright, so spraying cologne. It sounds simple, but man, I see folks getting it wrong all the time. Took me a while to figure out what actually works without making people gag when I walk past.

First thing I do, always, is spray it on clean skin. Usually right after a shower once I’m dried off. Seems to stick better, you know? Doesn’t get mixed up with sweat or whatever else from the day.
Then, I grab the bottle. Key thing here: don’t hold it right against your skin. Give it some distance. I usually aim for maybe 4 to 6 inches away. Gives it a nice, wider mist instead of a concentrated wet spot.
Where I Actually Spray
I stick to the pulse points mostly. These spots are a bit warmer, helps the scent sort of… radiate gently. My usual routine goes like this:
- One spray on one wrist.
- One spray on the other wrist.
- One spray on the base of my neck, kind of where the collarbone meets.
- Sometimes, maybe one more on the other side of the neck, or one on my chest if it’s a lighter scent.
That’s usually three, maybe four sprays total. Depends on the cologne, obviously. Some stuff is nuclear, one or two sprays is plenty. You gotta learn your bottles.
Stuff I Stopped Doing
I used to spray it in the air and walk through it. Waste of cologne, doesn’t really work well. Also, that thing where people spray their wrists and then rub them together? Don’t do that. I read somewhere it crushes the scent molecules or something. Sounds weird, but I stopped doing it, and it seems better. Just spray, let it air dry for a few seconds.

And I generally avoid spraying directly onto my clothes. Sometimes it can stain, especially lighter fabrics. Plus, I think cologne works best with your body heat, mixing with your skin chemistry a bit. Doesn’t happen the same on fabric.
So yeah, that’s my method. Started doing it this way after realizing I was probably suffocating people in my early twenties. Now, it’s more subtle. People notice it when they’re close, not from ten feet away. Much better vibe, lasts decently through the day too. It’s just what works for me, day in, day out.
