Getting Started with the Green and Pink
Okay, so I kept seeing this green and pink colorway pop up for Dunks. Looked pretty sharp, you know? Something different. But finding a pair? Forget about it. Either sold out instantly or the prices were just ridiculous. I wasn’t about to pay crazy money for that.
So, I figured, why not just make my own? Seemed like a decent weekend project. I had an old pair of all-white Dunks just sitting in the closet, collecting dust. Perfect candidate, I thought. Nothing fancy, just a basic pair.
The Messy Part: Prep and Paint
First step was getting them ready. This part’s kinda boring but you gotta do it.
- Cleaned them up properly. Used some sneaker cleaner and a brush. Got all the dirt off.
- Then the important bit: used acetone to strip off the factory finish. You need the paint to stick right. Man, that stuff smells strong. Had to open a window. Rubbed them down ’til the shine was gone.
Next up, taping. This took way longer than I expected. Used that blue painter’s tape. Tried real hard to get the lines crisp, especially around the swoosh and the different panels where the green and pink would meet. Fiddly work, honestly. My fingers were sore after.
Then came the actual painting. I got some leather paint, specific stuff for sneakers. Went with a nice bright green and a sort of bubblegum pink.
Painting process went something like this:

- Started with the green parts. Thin coats are key, apparently. So, I did like, three thin coats of green. Waiting in between for it to dry was a drag. Just sat there watching paint dry, literally.
- Once the green was done and properly dry, I carefully peeled off some tape and taped up new sections for the pink.
- Applied the pink paint, same deal – multiple thin coats. Patience is not my strong suit, so this tested me.
- Had a little accident here, a tiny bit of pink bled under the tape onto the green near the heel. Wasn’t huge, but I knew it was there. Tried to fix it but kinda made it worse. Oh well.
Finishing Touches and Final Thoughts
After all the color was on and dry, I hit it with a matte finisher spray. Supposed to protect the paint job. Did a couple of light coats of that, let it cure overnight just to be safe.
Pulled off all the tape the next morning. Gotta say, they looked pretty cool. That green and pink combo just pops. Yeah, if you look super close you can see tiny imperfections, like that little bleed spot I mentioned. But from a normal distance? They look legit.
Was it worth the effort? Yeah, I think so. Cheaper than buying resale, and honestly, kinda satisfying to wear something you put the work into yourself. Rocked them out to grab coffee, felt good. They’re definitely unique now. Nobody else has this exact pair, quirks and all. That’s the best part, I guess.
