Get the Look: Grace Ready or Not Costume Shopping Guide

by Alice Browne

Alright, alright, let’s talk about this “Grace Ready or Not Costume,” whatever that means. Sounds fancy, huh? My grandkids, they’re always into these things. Dressing up like movie people, I tell ya. Kids these days!

So, this Grace girl, from what I hear, she’s in a pickle. Got herself married into some crazy rich family, and now they wanna play hide-and-seek. But not the fun kind, no sir. This is the deadly kind. Gotta survive the night, they say. Sounds like a whole lotta trouble to me. Why can’t they just sit down and have a nice cup of tea?

Now, if you wanna look like this Grace, you gotta get the dress right. They say it’s a wedding dress, but not the poofy kind. More like… elegant, I guess. Long and white, with some fancy lace and stuff. You know, the kind you see in magazines, the ones that cost an arm and a leg. Probably itchy too. I tell you, my wedding dress was much more practical. Made it myself, outta good sturdy cotton. Lasted me twenty years!

  • First off, find yourself a long white dress. Don’t go breaking the bank, though. A thrift store might have something good.
  • Then, you gotta get the veil. Long and flowy, like a ghost. Spooky, right? But make sure you can see through it, or you’ll be bumping into things all night.
  • And shoes! Can’t forget the shoes. They say Grace wears fancy heels, but who can run from crazy in-laws in heels? I’d wear something comfortable, like my old sneakers. They might not be pretty, but they’ll get you out of trouble fast.

But the dress ain’t enough, they tell me. You need the hair too. Grace, she’s got this long, brown hair, kinda messy. Like she’s been running around all day. Which, I guess, she has been. So, don’t go fussing with it too much. Just let it hang loose, maybe give it a little wave with that curling iron thing my granddaughter uses. Burns my fingers every time I try it. Sticking to my braids, thank you very much.

Then there’s the accessories. That’s what they call ’em, fancy word for the little things. Grace, she’s got this necklace, a little locket thing. Probably got a picture of her grandma in it. Sweet, but not gonna help you much against those crazy in-laws. Maybe carry a good strong flashlight instead. Blind ’em with the light, that’s what I say.

And the makeup. Oh, these young girls and their makeup. Grace, she’s got that natural look, they say. Like she ain’t wearing any at all. But trust me, she is. Just a little bit of this and that, to make her look pretty. Me? I just wash my face with soap and water. Keeps me looking young, or so they tell me. Maybe a little bit of rouge on the cheeks, for special occasions.

So, there you have it. The Grace Ready or Not Costume, according to me. Now, I still don’t understand why anyone would wanna dress up like someone running for their life, but hey, to each their own. Just make sure you wear comfortable shoes, and maybe carry a flashlight. And for goodness sake, stay away from those crazy rich families! They’re nothing but trouble, I tell ya.

And one more thing, if you do decide to go out dressed like this Grace, make sure you got a good hiding spot. You know, just in case. Behind the couch, under the bed, in the pantry. My old pantry was the best. Nobody could ever find me there. Good hiding skills, that’s what you need in this world. And maybe a good strong voice to yell for help. That works too.

So, have fun, be safe, and don’t go marrying any strangers with crazy families. That’s my advice. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go make some supper. Got a hankering for some good old-fashioned meatloaf. Now that’s something worth talking about!
