So, it all started last week. I was strolling through the mall, you know, just window shopping, when I passed by the LV store. I thought, “Hey, what’s the harm in trying?” I mean, worst case scenario, they say no. Big deal.
Phase 1: The Innocent Inquiry
- I walked in, trying to look like I belonged there. You know, nonchalant, like I drop a grand on handbags every Tuesday.
- I started browsing some wallets, you know, acting interested. Then, I casually asked a sales associate, “Hey, I was wondering, do you guys happen to have any extra shopping bags lying around? I’m a collector.” (Okay, maybe the “collector” part was a little white lie).
- The sales associate gave me this look. You know, the one that says, “Honey, we’re Louis Vuitton. We don’t just give away our bags.” But she was polite about it. She said, “Unfortunately, we only provide shopping bags with a purchase.” Bummer.
Phase 2: The Subtle Strategy
I wasn’t giving up that easily! I figured I needed a new approach. Time for some… ahem… creative maneuvering.
- I noticed a display of keychains near the register. Small, relatively inexpensive items. Perfect!
- I picked out the cheapest looking one (hey, gotta be strategic!), and went to pay.
- As the sales associate was ringing me up, I said, “Actually, you know what? I was hoping to gift this, but I forgot I already got them something similar. Could I just get a bag anyway? It’s for the ‘aesthetic’, you know?” I gave my most charming smile (or what I thought was charming, anyway).
Phase 3: The (Almost) Victory
For a split second, I thought it was gonna work! The sales associate paused, considering. She then said, “I understand, but our policy is still that bags are only given with a purchase. However…” (Hold up, did she just say “however”?!), “…I can offer you a dust bag instead. Would that work?”
Okay, a dust bag isn’t exactly a shopping bag, but hey, it’s something! I figured I could always repurpose it. So, I said, “Sure, that would be great!”

So, did I get a free LV shopping bag? No. But did I get a free LV dust bag? Yes! It’s not the prize I was aiming for, but I’ll take it. I mean, it still has the logo on it! And let’s be honest, the whole experience was worth more than the keychain itself.
Lessons Learned?
Don’t be afraid to ask! The worst they can say is no. And sometimes, if you’re lucky (or persuasive!), you might get a little something anyway. Plus, it’s always a good story to tell!
