Okay, so I’ve been wanting to mess around with this “ellen house” thing for a while now. I finally carved out some time this weekend to give it a shot. Here’s how it went down.
First, I needed to get my environment set up. I’m working on my old laptop, so I made sure I had enough space. Then, I spent some time, downloading all assets what I needed.
Collecting Assets
- Images: Pictures of the interior, exterior, different angles… the works. I grabbed whatever I could find that looked useful.
- Floor Plans: This was key. Luckily, I found some decent quality floor plans online, although I will find more detailed plans for more perfect effect.
- Software: Time to find one suitable 3D software to make the “ellen house”.
Building Process Start!
I’m using a free version what I have known for a while, it’s not perfect, but it’ll do for this project. I started by importing the floor plans. This was a bit of a pain, had to scale them correctly, and it took a few tries to get everything lined up right. I used some online tutorials to get the hang of it.
Once the floor plans were in, I started with simple box modeling. Basically, just extruding walls from the floor plan. Then, I built the outline frame, and divided the different rooms.
After the basic structure was done, I imported the images I had collected. This is where things got a little more visual.
Detailing Work(The Fun Part!)
Next step, I tried my best to create the doors and windows, and it took me much time.
I also started playing around with the textures, I wanted to make the wood floors look worn, and the concrete have that smooth, polished feel. I was constantly switching back and forth between the software and the reference images, trying to get the details just right.
The Result (For Now!)
It’s definitely not perfect, and there’s still a lot I want to add. Like, I haven’t even touched the landscaping yet. But, for a weekend project, I’m pretty happy with how it’s turning out. It’s cool to see something you’ve only seen in pictures start to take shape in 3D. I’ll probably keep tweaking this over the next few weeks, adding more details and refining the textures.
So yeah, that’s my “ellen house” experiment so far. Maybe I’ll post another update once I’ve made some more progress. It’s a fun learning experience, even if it’s a bit frustrating at times!
