Okay so here’s the thing, I totally fell down a rabbit hole this weekend. You know how sometimes you just get obsessed with a specific style? Yeah, that was me with 70s shoes after watching this old movie marathon. Felt like I had to see and maybe even try some of those iconic looks myself.

The Hunt Begins (And It Was Messy)
My first stop wasn’t fancy. Nope, I grabbed my keys and just drove downtown to hit up every thrift store and vintage spot I could find. Honestly, wasn’t super hopeful. You know how thrift stores are – piles of stuff, gotta dig deep.
And man, dig I did. Pushed aside sweaters, shuffled through boxes, peeked under racks. Found lots of weird 80s loafers and beat-up sneakers first. Was starting to feel kinda dumb. Then, under a stack of old jeans in this super cramped little shop… bam!
- Disco Kings: Found these wild electric blue platform boots. Seriously high platforms, smooth fake leather, and this shiny, almost metallic finish. Looked straight off a stage.
- Chilled Out Classic: Right beside them, a pair of tan suede low-top sneakers. Simple, sturdy vibes. Had these cool thick, ripple-like soles – comfort written all over them.
- Bonus Find: Nearby, stumbled on some faded canvas slip-ons with a super groovy floral print. Felt instantly casual and cool.
Snagged all three. Maybe overkill, but how could I say no? Plus, the prices were silly cheap.
Operation: Bring ‘Em Back to Life
Got them home and reality hit. Decades of grime, you know? The blue platforms were dull under layers of dust. The suede sneakers felt stiff and looked kinda sad.
So I cleared the kitchen table – total chaos zone for hours. Started with the basics:

- Plastic platforms first: Wiped them down with a damp cloth. Surprisingly, the blue started popping again instantly! Just needed a little shine from some furniture polish my mom swears by (worked a treat!).
- Next, the suede: This was trickier. Brushed them gently with an old toothbrush to lift the nap. Used a suede eraser on a few nasty scuffs. Big improvement, looked worn but loved.
- Floral slip-ons? Just gave them a quick scrub with soapy water outdoors. Came out surprisingly bright!
No fancy products, just stuff I had around. The results weren’t museum-grade perfect, but they felt authentic.
The Fun Part: Wearing ‘Em Out
Couldn’t just stare at them, right? Had to see how they felt!
- Disco Night (at Home): Put on my widest-leg pants, a weird patterned shirt, and shoved my feet into those blue platforms. Felt ridiculously tall! Practically wobbled around the living room trying disco moves while blasting ABBA. Seriously unstable, but man, they looked cool. Glitter everywhere later.
- Casual Day Out: Wore the suede sneakers with regular jeans and a tee. So. Comfortable. That thick sole was like walking on clouds. Way more support than I expected. Got a compliment at the coffee shop too!
- Grocery Run Vibes: Slipped into the floral pair with shorts. Effortless. Light, airy, just easy to wear. Zero effort, maximum 70s chill.
Honestly? The platforms are more for looking at now (balance is not my strong suit!), but the others? Definitely adding them into the regular rotation. The suede ones especially feel like instant favorites.
Whole thing was messy, spontaneous, and a ton of fun. Forget perfectly staged fashion shots; this was about grabbing the vibe and feeling it firsthand. Highly recommend poking around old shops – you never know what weird 70s magic you’ll stumble onto! Got any funky old finds yourself? Would love to hear about them!
