So my kid’s been begging for those Cat in the Hat shoes after seeing them at a friend’s birthday party. Figured I’d try tracking down a pair without emptying my wallet. Here’s how I went about it.

Starting The Hunt
First thing yesterday morning, I grabbed my coffee and fired up the computer. Typed in “Cat in the Hat shoes” expecting tons of options. Damn thing showed me cat-themed shoes first – like, actual cat pictures on sneakers! Had to scratch my head and add “Dr Seuss” to the search.
Checked the usual big-box store sites. Either sold out completely or priced stupid high – we’re talking $95 for light-up ones! Tried searching outlet sites too but kept hitting dead ends.
Changing Tactics
Around lunchtime, I decided to hit actual stores. Grabbed my keys and drove to the mall. Went straight to the kids’ shoe section at that big department store. Scanned the shelves real slow. Nothing.
Asked the guy working there. He actually knew what I meant! Said they had em last season but cleared em out. Told me to try the discount shoe warehouse across town. Drove over there praying they’d have something.
The Discount Dig
Place smelled like rubber and foot powder. Wandered past walls of boxes until I spotted that familiar red-and-white stripe pattern. Bingo! Six pairs shoved in the clearance corner.

- Found my kid’s size after digging through mismatched boxes
- Scratched off the price sticker – original tag said $80
- New orange sticker showed $59.99 – better
Walked up to the counter feeling clever. Cashier rings em up and goes “oh these are extra 25% off today”. Damn near did a happy dance right there. Final damage? $45 out the door.
Aftermath
Kid lost his mind when he saw the box tonight. Stomped around showing off the lights to the dog. Only hiccup? Missing one of the themed socks that’s supposed to come with em. Called the store – they’re digging around their stockroom tomorrow to find it.
Moral of the story? Sometimes you gotta get off your butt and hunt through physical stores. That warehouse place saved me fifty bucks compared to anything online.
